Toshiba copier and fax dealers across the country are heading back to school. In an effort to prepare their dealers for the coming digital age, Toshiba America Information Systems, Electronic Imaging Division (TAIS EID) has opened “Toshiba Digital University” in Irvine, California.
On-campus classes began last October in a newly-constructed 18,000-square-foot facility located near Toshiba’s Irvine headquarters. The company expects to graduate three digital color copier/printer classes by the end of 1998.
Sales training lasts four days, with a particular focus on the new kind of sales needed for digital products. Said Al Sumner, Digital Training Manager, “Salespeople have to understand that networked connected products require a team sell. You have to have someone who can talk to an MIS manager, another person who can talk to a CEO…it touches on so many more facets than an analog model.”
Future plans for the University include the opening of a hands-on lab, where dealers can experience comparative demonstrations on both the sales and service sides.
