New Networkable Toshiba Copier Offers Business Users More Flexiblity and Convenience

Toshiba has demonstrated its commitment to the American business market with the recent debut of its DP2460 digital black-and-white copier, a state-of-the-art unit designed to provide maximum flexibility and convenience for small to medium workgroups. By adding the optional SC-1 controller, the copier can easily be networked, enabling users to perform multifunction tasks such as printing and faxing.

The user-friendly DP2460 features 24-page-per-minute output for both copy and print functions, offering true 600 x 600-dpi resolution. The unit comes standard with a Magazine Sort function, which enables users to copy multi-paged originals into a booklet-style format. Other standard features include Page Numbering, Image Rotation, and 2-in1, 4-in-1 and 8-in-1 Copy Modes that allow users to copy from two to eight letter-sized originals onto a single sheet of paper. The DP2460 can be customized with the addition of a Reversing Automatic Document Feeder, auto duplexing unit, paper supply pedestals, and an optional multi-position stapling finisher. And with the optional Hard Disk Drive, users can store company letterhead, logos, and other commonly used images. All of the DP2460’s functions are controlled by an easy-to-use touch screen panel.

While fully operational as a stand-alone digital copier, the DP2460 can be upgraded to a fully networked, multifunction product with the addition of the Toshiba SC-1 controller. The SC-1 is compatible with Novell Netware® and Microsoft Network Operating Systems, as well as Novell NEST® Technology. For use as a printer, the unit also supports PCL emulations, and optional PostScript® Level II. The SC-1 allows the DP2460 to offer networked outbound facsimile functions, as well as walk-up facsimile convenience.

Other features of the networked unit include Toshiba’s exclusive "private printing" function, which stores print jobs on the DP2460’s HDD until the user accesses the unit with a PIN number. This not only provides for job separation in multi-user environments, but also ensures the confidentiality of all print materials. Full network administration and status utility diagnostic software for users and network administrators will be available with the SC-1, plus optional remote diagnostic software for dealer technical support and future software upgrades. National distribution of the standalone DP2460 digital copier began in December 1997, and shipment of the SC-1 controller is scheduled for second quarter 1998.
