TOSHIBA ANNOUNCES ALL-NEW 6-HEAD HI-FI VCR’S FOR ’99

For 1999, Toshiba is introducing an all-new 6-head Hi-Fi VCR lineup that offers consumers the ultimate in convenience, home theater flexibility and affordability. Toshiba’s five new six-head Hi-Fi models each feature the company’s revolutionary V3 chassis/flying pre-amp design plus a host of performance and convenience features such as satellite TV recording control, image-enhancing DNR Perfect, Icon-Based On-Screen programming, and more.

A History Of Firsts In Hi-Fi VCR Performance

Toshiba’s reputation for leadership in VCR technology is based on a continuing series of major innovations, including the introduction in 1996 of the breakthrough V3 chassis design. All five of Toshiba’s new six-head Hi-Fi VCRs -- including Models M785, M765, M755, M745 and M735 -- utilize the revolutionary V3 chassis, with a unique flying pre-amp design for superior audio and video performance. A flying pre-amp amplifies the video and audio signals while they are still inside the VCR's rotating head cylinder. Because the flying pre-amp is located directly in the video head cylinder, virtually no video noise enters the signal during playback. The result is a much clearer and more natural-looking picture. Until Toshiba brought the design to the consumer market, only professional decks featured flying pre-amplifier designs.

Toshiba’s new six-head VCRs bring picture performance to new heights by combining the V3 chassis/flying pre-amp design with an additional pair of 19-micron heads to deliver sharper, clearer pictures in the extended play (EP) mode. In these six-head decks, EP picture quality is virtually indistinguishable from that achieved in the standard play (SP) mode. In addition, the top-of-the-line M785 features DNR Perfect, which incorporates both Digital Noise Reduction (DNR) and Color Signal Enhancement (CSE) for unsurpassed video performance.

The advanced Digital Noise Reduction circuitry automatically scans each frame of a video individually, removing image-degrading flecks and specks (“video noise”) that often appear in well-worn rental tapes. And Color Signal Enhancement significantly improves color sharpness while reducing horizontal color bleeding.

All new Toshiba six-head VCRs are designed to make time-shift recording fast and hassle-free. The decks feature a special on-screen programming system with visual icons that guide users through every step of the recording process with point-and-click simplicity. The M785 and M765 also include a universal remote control with satellite TV recording control, making satellite recording as simple as possible, as well as VCR Plus+C3 ® Programming for easier and more convenient recording.

Toshiba’s new line of VCRs also includes four four-head Hi-Fi VCRs, Models M685, M675, M655 and M465, as well as a value-priced 2-head Model M265.
