To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, Toshiba participated in several Earth Day events in New York City from April 19-24. Toshiba participated in an environmental exhibition inside Grand Central Terminal, New York City's famous train station. Toshiba created an environmental corner for this exhibition. The theme for Toshiba's environmental corner was "Contributing to CO2 Reduction Through Toshiba Technologies". 5,000 people visited the environmental corner.

The Toshiba environmental corner consisted of Environmental Vision 2050 information, Smart Grid technologies, a Home IT System, SCiB / Schwinn Tailwind Electric Bicycle, ECO LED TV, ECO PCs, LED Lamps & Downlight, Toshiba-Carrier Ductless Air conditioner, and information about Toshiba's recycling programs, including a park bench made from recycled toner cartridges.

Additionally, Toshiba and several other companies sponsored seven recycling events in New York City during the months of March and April. 2,000 participants brought products to recycle and 107,000 lbs. (48 metric tons) of e-waste was collected.
