In keeping with our commitment to provide our employees and their families with every opportunity to realize their full potential, Toshiba sponsors the annual Youth for Understanding (YFU) scholarship program for children of our employees between the ages of 15 to 18. The YFU scholarship gives U.S. students the opportunity to stay in Japan. Since its inception in 1984, a total of 66 students have studied in Japan, where they stay with host families and attend local schools.

This year, Lisa Chan (top picture) and Dianne Srinilta (bottom picture), whose family works for Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. and Westinghouse Electronic Company, L.L.C. were selected to visit Japan for six weeks. Lisa went to Akita prefecture, located in northern part of Japan on the central part of Honshu (mainland Japan) and Dianne went to Osaka.

Lisa says she made many Japanese friends that she hopes to keep for life. This exchange program was a priceless and life changing experience for her. Dianne says that it was once-in-a-lifetime experience and it has been the most amazing thing that she had ever done.
