Toshiba develops its motor controller and driver ICs in its leading-edge BiCMOS and BiCD (Bipolar+CMOS+DMOS) processes. The BiCD process combines the analog advantages of bipolar devices with the digital and low-power consumption benefits of MOSFETs, as well as the high-power capabilities of DMOS devices.

New Motor Driver ICs Support Reduced Motor Noise, Vibration and Size

Toshiba expanded its family of motor driver ICs with four new products. The additions include the TB67S269FTG bipolar stepping motor driver with a maximum rating of 50V and 2.0A, and three brushless DC motor drivers: the TB67B001FTG, TB67B008FTG and TB67B008FNG with maximum rating of 25V and 3.0A. These devices enable smaller, quieter, and power-efficient motor control products. The TB67S269FTG targets a broad range of applications that require high-speed, high-precision motor drives. These range from printers and office automation equipment, to ATMs and banknote identification machines, as well as gaming equipment and home appliances. The three new brushless DC motor drivers are three-phase sensorless driver ICs for small cooling fans used in network servers and eco-conscious home appliances. To operate at peak efficiency, these fans require quiet operation. The new products feature a 150-degree wide-angle commutation drive, which contributes to reduced vibration and motor noise1, and 30,000 rpm motor rotation utilizing a high-speed pulse-width modulation (PWM) drive to enhance cooling.

Toshiba Motor Driver ICs Save Space for Low Power, High Performance Applications

The new TC78H610FNG and TB67Z800FTG motor driver ICs save space for a wide range of motor applications. The TC78H610FNG is an H bridge driver for low-voltage brushed DC motors and is for use with battery-powered equipment, camera equipment, and household electrical devices. Supplied in a SSOP16 package, it can reduce the required mounting area by 21 percent compared to products with similar functionality housed in SSOP20 packages. This, in turn, enables a reduction in both PCB cost and equipment size. The TC78H610FNG can control two brushed DC motors or one stepping motor. It has an operating voltage range from 2.5 to 15V and maximum output current of 1.0A. Output ON resistance is 1.2Ω (typical).
