Toshiba has made significant contributions to the creation of MPEG-4 multimedia
guidelines and specifications.
MPEG-4 is a major focus for Toshiba, and the company has successfully secured
multiple MPEG-4 patents. To be able to provide its customers a complete MPEG-4
solution, Toshiba is developing a range of solutions to fit various application
needs -- from producer/authoring tools, to servers, gateways and MPEG-4 enabled
products.
OEMs of portable wireless products can select from a variety of enabling MPEG-4
technologies. Toshiba offers the world's first production silicon MPEG-4 decoder.
This device integrates an MPEG-4 decoder with 4-megabits (Mb) of embedded DRAM
to deliver a single-chip, low-power solution, enabling designers to create advanced
wireless communication products that can receive and decode streaming media.
In addition, Toshiba offers an MPEG-4 video encoder and decoder (CODEC) with
12Mb of embedded DRAM to deliver a low-power, end-to-end solution with encoding,
transmission and decoding functionality. To support these products, the company
has developed firmware, drivers, middleware and development tools that include
reference boards.
With the advantages of low power and small package size, Toshiba's single-chip
MPEG-4 products are ideal for a wide range of wireless systems including video
phones, streaming wireless media players, security/surveillance equipment, wireless
LAN applications, and other emerging Internet, communications or multimedia
storage areas.
In addition to its single-chip MPEG-4 solutions, a software MPEG-4 decoder
is also available.
