Toshiba offers a family of flexible I/O expander products, the TC35892XBG and the TC35890XBG. The flexible I/O expanders are designed to provide additional I/O ports enabling devices such as keypads, LEDs and rotator wheels to interface to the Baseband and/or application processor in a mobile handset or in other portable consumer electronic products.
Both devices address the mechanical and electrical design challenges associated with moveable parts in today's handheld consumer electronic products. The low-pin count, small-packaged devices offer up to 24 configurable, general-purpose I/O ports (GPIO) at needed locations and have built-in functionality for managing a keypad, PWM signal generation for LED and vibrator control and a rotator wheel interface.
The TC35892XBG features a smaller 3.5mm x 3.5mm x 1.2mm footprint compared to the TC35890XBG and an internal clock generator that is well suited for space-constrained handhelds. In addition, the TC35892XBG supports additional low-power features including operation from a low frequency clock source of 32 kHz, and clock-less operation that allows peripherals connected to the TC35892XBG to operate independently of the application processor for increased battery life. |
