TOSHIBA ANNOUNCES SHIPMENTS OF 43nm MLC NAND SOLID STATE DRIVES TO MAJOR PC OEMS

IRVINE, Calif., August 5, 2009 — Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC) today announced that Toshiba's latest generation solid state drives (SSD), based on award winning 43nm MLC NAND-flash, are now shipping to manufacturers of more than five leading mobile PC brands. Toshiba's SSDs are initially available to OEMs only, in capacities of 64GB1 , 128GB, 256GB and 512GB, in 1.8-inch or 2.5-inch drive enclosures, targeted for use in notebook computers, gaming and home entertainment systems.

An advanced multi-channel MLC controller enables a maximum sequential read speed of 230MB2 per second (MBps)3 and maximum sequential write speed of 180MBps2,3 . A proprietary wear leveling algorithm optimizes the performance, reliability and lifetime of the drive. AES data encryption is available as an option to prevent unauthorized data access.
