IRVINE, Calif., April 10, 1995 -- Toshiba America
Information Systems, Inc., Disk Products Division (TAIS DPD)
today introduced the MK-1926F Series drives which offer a 815MB
capacity -- the worldís highest capacity slimline drive, and a
fast 13ms average seek time in a small 0.5-inch high (12.7mm),
2.5-inch form factor.
"Todayís notebook users require more from their portable systems
than ever before," said Scott Smith, vice president of marketing,
TAIS, DPD. "The MK-1926F Series is ideal for Pentium-class
notebook users who require high performance and reliability and
who rely on their portable systems for highly demanding database,
multimedia and graphics applications. The new MK-1926F Series
drives meet these requirements by delivering fast performance
in the highest capacity slimline drive on the market."
The new MK-1926F Series offers superior performance. The three
platter drive offers an internal data transfer rate of up to
44.9Mbits/sec, a 128KB write cache buffer, and a rapid spin rate
of 4200rpm.
The MK-1926F Series drives are available with either Fast ATA or
SCSI-2 interfaces to allow for compatibility with a wide range
of systems. The MK-1926FBV provides a SCSI-2 interface and
features a synchronous data transfer rate of 10MB/sec and an
asynchronous data transfer rate of 6MB/sec. The MK-1926FCV Fast
ATA interface drive supports multiword DMA mode 2 at a data
transfer rate of 16.6MB/sec, and PIO mode 4 with 16.6MB/sec data
transfer rate.
In addition to its high performance capabilities, the new MK-1926F
Series drives were developed specifically to meet the demands of
the portable and sub-notebook market for small size, high-capacity,
low weight and low power requirements. The new 2.5-inch drives
consume less than one watt from a single 5-volt supply while
spinning up to operational speed in a fast 5 seconds.
The MK-1926F Series drives weigh only 150 grams and measure a slim
0.5-inches high, 2.76-inches wide and 3.94-inches deep. These
new drives are also extremely reliable, demonstrating a 300,000
hour MTBF.
The MK-1926F Series drives are available in the second quarter of
1995 in quantities at a price of $275.
