- Toshiba's new drive employs giant magnetoresistive head (GMR) technology
- The new MV6000 Series high performance drive features 13ms seek time and 33.3Mbits/sec data transfer rate in Ultra DMA Mode-2
- New MV6000 Series drive provides 500G non-operational shock
IRVINE, Calif., May 8, 1998 - Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. Disk Products Division today introduced the MV6000 Series, a 6.4GB 2.5-inch slim-line drive that brings industry leading capacity and performance to the mobile computing market.
New MV6000 Series Drive Features GMR Heads, High Performance
The new MV6000 Series drive uses giant magnetoresistive head (GMR) technology to achieve the high 6.4GB capacity. In addition to the high capacity, the MV-6000 Series drive features leading performance including a fast 13ms seek time and a 33Mbits/sec data transfer rate in Ultra DMA Mode-2. A fast 4,200 rpm rotational speed and 512KB buffer contribute to the drive's high performance.
Drive Engineered to Meet Demands of Mobile Computers
"The MV6000 Series drive was designed specifically to meet the size, weight, and shock requirements of mobile computer manufacturers without sacrificing capacity or performance," said Amy Lian, marketing director, hard disk drives, TAEC DPD. The new drive measures 0.49 (h) x 2.75 (w) x 3.93 (d) inches and weighs only 150 grams. It supports an ATA-4 interface and boasts a 500G non-operational shock. To meet the power constraints of mobile computers, the MV6000 has an energy consumption efficiency of 0.3 watts on standby.
Toshiba's 6.4GB MV6000 Series drive, model number MK6409MAV is available now.
Complete Line of 2.5-inch Hard Disk Drives.
