Toshiba Sponsors 1999 Senior Golf Classic

Hoag Heart Center to Benefit from Proceeds

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

IRVINE, Calif., February 16, 1999-Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC) and Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Computer Systems Division (TAIS CSD) are teaming up for the fifth consecutive year with Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian to sponsor the Toshiba Senior Golf Classic. The event will be held March 8-14, 1999 at the Newport Beach Country Club in Newport Beach. Proceeds from this year's event will benefit Hoag Heart Institute as well as the Deacon Jones Foundation, which provides inner-city youths with one-on-one mentoring, job training and scholarships.

"Toshiba has brought 3, 6 and 10GB capacities to the market at a time of peak demand without compromising quality or reliability," said Amy Lian, business development director for hard disk drives, TAEC. "With the introduction of this product family, Toshiba continues to lead the market in providing hard disk drive solutions for a broad range of mobile users to meet a variety of computing demands."

"As one of the most successful fund-raising events on the Senior PGA Tour, it is an honor to serve as title sponsor," said Atsutoshi Nishida, president of TAIS. "Sponsoring the Toshiba Senior Classic provides us with an opportunity to give to Orange County charities in need of funding. These charities preserve and enhance the quality of life for thousands in need of personal attention and medical assistance."

"Toshiba America Electronic Components is proud to give back to the community in which we do business through events like the Toshiba Senior Classic," said Bob Brown, president and chief operating officer of TAEC. "Our sponsorship over the past five years has allowed us to positively impact the lives of people here in our community through the various organizations that have benefited from our support."

Since it began in 1994, the Toshiba Senior Golf Classic has brought the Senior PGA Tour to Orange County. This year, 78 Senior PGA Tour professionals, led by defending champion Hale Irwin, will return to the Newport Beach Country Club. Also participating in the event are golf legends such as Lee Trevino, Dave Stockton, Bob Murphy, Billy Casper, Larry Nelson, Gary Player, Chi Chi Rodriguez, Gil Morgan and Gary McCord.

The support gained by Hoag through this prestigious tournament, Hoag Heart Month, and the events of the Heart Institute has stemmed from an 11 year partnership with the Toshiba companies of Southern California. "We would like to thank Toshiba for their financial support and long-standing dedication," said Michael Stephens, president and chief executive officer, Hoag Hospital. "Thanks to the selfless efforts and time put forward by our sponsors, the Toshiba Senior Classic is successful in raising funds and community awareness for the primary beneficiaries of this event."

The Toshiba Senior Golf Classic is one of the most successful fund-raising events on the Senior PGA Tour and raised more than $700,000 last year. With a purse valued at $1.2 million, proceeds from this year's event are expected to exceed last year's. Ticket prices range from $12 for a single day to $100 for the entire week with grounds and clubhouse access. Coverage of the event can be seen on ESPN Friday, March 12 through Sunday, March 14.
