Toshiba's Disk Products Earns ISO 9001 Certification

Certification Ensures Quality Services and Products for Toshiba's Storage Customers

IRVINE, Calif., March 2, 1999-The Disk Products Business Unit (DPBU) of Toshiba America Electronic Components (TAEC), Inc., earned inclusion into the ISO 9001 quality certification of TAEC, as regulated by the International Organization for Standardization. This certification further demonstrates the DPBU's commitment to providing quality products and services to its customers.

"ISO 9001 certification provides our customers the assurance of quality design, manufacturing, delivery and support for every DVD, CD and hard disk drive Toshiba produces," said Rod Keller, vice president and general manager, TAEC DPBU. "We are dedicated to continually improving the way we operate and ultimately improving customer satisfaction."

ISO 9001 Makes the Difference
ISO 9001 certification further complements the DPBU's existing quality procedures for document control, failure analysis and corrective actions. The quality control process DPBU has employed for 14 years allowed for quick ISO 9001 certification.

ISO standardization has become essential for doing successful business today. It has come to serve as the compelling differentiator for choosing a business partner, eliminating the cost and process often incurred during supplier audits and acting as an independent third party validation of quality. Customer alliances have indicated buying from a certified partner is always preferential to an uncertified source. The DPBU has also chosen to solidify their commitment to quality by writing ISO 9001 certification adherence into customer purchase agreements, contractually binding DPBU to continue providing products and services consistent with the standardization.

ISO Standards
ISO 9000 is a series of standards, published by the International Organization for Standardization, which define a framework of minimum requirements for the implementation of quality systems to be used in contractual situations. These quality assurance standards are accepted throughout the world. Currently 90 countries have adopted ISO 9000 as national standards. ISO 9001 is the most comprehensive standard, covering design, development and after-sales servicing, final inspection and testing, production and installation.
