TOSHIBA
EXPANDS OPTICAL STORAGE LINE WITH SLIM-LINE CD-R/RW AND UPGRADED
DESK-TOP COMBINATION PRODUCT
Mobile
storage technology leader provides customers with a single source
for complete line of small, slim, light and low-power optical products
IRVINE, Calif,
Toshiba America Electronic Components (TAEC), Storage Device Division
(SDD) today announced it will offer slim-line CD-R/RW as an extension
to its line of market-leading optical products for notebook computers,
providing mobile PC manufacturers with a full slate of optical products
to meet their customers' needs.
First to offer
a slim-line combination CD-RW/DVD-ROM product, Toshiba SDD is extending
its mobile rewritable technology leadership to the popular CD-R/RW
format to provide PC OEMs with the full range of storage options
that can help create differentiation in their product offerings
based on customer profiles and needs.
"Slim-line
CD-R/RW is a new addition to our mobile product line, because we
have focused on the slim-line combination drive as our primary rewritable
format since it offers both rewritable CD and DVD capabilities,"
said Maciek Brzeski, vice president of marketing at Toshiba SDD.
"We think this technology addition makes sense to provide mobile
PC manufacturers with the full array of rewritable storage solutions,
so that they can vary their product mix according to customer set.
Slim-line CD-R/RW provides a simple storage option at a lower price
point for entry level or mid-range mobile customers, whereas, the
slim-line combination drive can be a value-added offering to those
looking for DVD playback as well as CD recording capability."
The SR-C8002
slim-line CD-R/RW drive reads CD-R/CD-RW media with a capacity of
650MB. The drive features a fast-writing and read speed of 8X for
CD-R and CD-RW and employs a full 24X speed maximum playback for
CD-ROM. It is currently available in volume production to mobile
PC manufacturers.
Toshiba
Upgrades Popular Combination Drive
Toshiba has also improved the performance capabilities of its popular
desk-top combination CD-RW/DVD-ROM upgrade kit, an easy addition
to increase PC functionality with the latest applications for file
sharing, CD writing and DVD playback. Now available online at www.sdd.toshiba.com,
the new upgrade kit features the 8x8x32x8 SD-R1102 CD-RW/DVD-ROM
ATAPI combination drive as well as Cyberlink's Power DVD software
decoder and VOB Instant CD/DVD for CD creation and backup.
