Best gaming computer ever

Yes, battery doesn't last long, even on eco mode, but I didn't buy this for the battery. After upgrading the hardware to it's max (Two 1TB drives, 256 SSD mSATA, i7, Blu-ray RE, 32 GB RAM) and the 3 GB video card, this isn't used for battery life, it's used for gaming and game design. There is no game I can't play, and there isn't anything I can't design on this system. Yes, buy this computer, but also use it as it was designed to be. Stop putting Linux on a gamming computer.

Toshiba makes best the laptop on market today at any price level. Lets not forget we can custom build to order, they are unlock for cloning and easy to upgrade. I'm very happy with my new computer, it is well built and can't wait to buy one for my wife. Ever thing is top quality even the D drive and Quiet.

I travel for work and purchased this model for entertainment and mid-level gaming. It runs smooth with no heat issues and the picture and sound quality are great for movies. Pros: easy setup, easy upgrading, excellent sound/speaker quality, runs relatively quiet except when using Bluray/DVD drive Cons: shiny reflective screen, battery life, Windows 8.1, noisy Bluray/DVD player (there's just nothing to buffer the sound)

short battery life !!

the battery life is very short about 4h , this is almost nothing , for example in apple products the battery life is up to 10h , wow this is a huge difference !! the battery life can be a negative point for the outside users and make them buy other products like apple !!

almost perfect

Other than Windows 8 being frustrating at times, the only other real problem I've run into would be the touch pad freezing up once in awhile.

Stellar Laptop

If you're thinking about getting this laptop but are kind of on the fence about it, do it. Make sure you go with the i7 core, though. I personally opted for the i5 because the i7 was a little out of my budget, and it's cost me a bit performance-wise. That being said, this computer still works very well, though the heat can be a bit of an issue. It's definitely a worthwhile investment.

For lack of a bios setting...

The value and the features for this laptop are great, it's obvious. The big problem for me is that Optimus doesn't work with Linux and this GPU, which brings me to the title. Because there is no bios setting for turning off the Intel GPU so that the NVidia GPU is left as the primary and only GPU, I can't use the GPU with Linux. (and believe me, I tried, and NVidia confirms this). You can expect to use the framebuffer driver, but don't expect the great graphics of the NVidia card.

Win 8 is a bust. The laptop arangemnt could be bet

1st. Only touch screen laptops should have win 8/8.1. Win 8.1 is killing the professional user. It takes forever to access & use programs (not apps), and they are in 3 different areas. Now the laptop design, its suppose to be portable (thus laptop and a gamers laptop at that), not so much with this one. Pros; looks cool, fast, great screen, key board surface feels sold, great speakers. Cons: The DVD location is where you grab the laptop to move it (feels like you can damage the DVD), the DVD location allows you to accidently open the DVD (it should have been placed to the back, it should have the button controls like the less expensive models (volume, WIFI, etc) and the missing lights to show the drive and CPU is working, the power supply transformer weight is like a brick and it is the same size (not to mention the 4 prong connector to the laptop). I should have saved the money & got the Toshiba Satellite P model. The X model in my view is only good for better speakers & fancy red plastic. SUMMERY: The X gamer with WIn 8 is only god for games & apps, real computer users for professional use & most gamers would be better off with the Satellite P with all the same hardware minus the upgraded speakers & win 7 instead of win 8.1.

Overheatin

I have had two of these laptops. My current machine is almost two years old. The first overheated within 4months the second lasted almost 8months before it started shutting down due to overheating. I just purchased an Alienware 18. I will never buy another Toshiba gaming laptop again.
