Great laptop for the price

POSTED BY: TW , Kansas City
Overall rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

I have been using this laptop for about a month now and the performance has been very solid for the price paid. The speed of navigating web pages is great and the battery life is excellent. Still trying to get used to Windows 8 but it should get easier to use over time.

Overall rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

Love this laptop, replaced an old XP based clunker and what a difference. This is lighter, faster, easier to use than my 5 year old Dell. I had trouble getting used to Windows 8 but after a week got used to it. Still dont like the Toshiba software shell though; it seems to battle with Windows 8 when loading software. Had a very hard time loading MS Office because of the Toshiba window blocking Windows, but after a few days got it working. Still overall would buy this again.

Satisfied with performance of computer, but still struggling getting used to Windows 8. This is not a bad reflection on the computer, just the operating system.

I am no computer geek. This laptop does what I need it to do. I am playing games from pogo w/ no problems. The only problem is the charge doesn't last as long at it says. Other wise no complaints. Windows 8 is a learning process which is no big deal.

Love my laptop!

POSTED BY: Dee , West Point,CA
Overall rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

My Toshiba is the first laptop I have owned. I didn't like the reviews of the popular HP and Dell and was drawn to the Toshiba. I love my laptop--my only frustration is getting use to Windows 8.1! I'm getting there! After I bought my Toshiba I had several confirmations after that that I had made a wise decision!

Great Laptop

POSTED BY: EileenMax , Moses Lake, WA
Overall rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

This laptop is just what I expected of Toshiba. Wonderful quality! The only issue I have is the placement of the touchpad. I was thrilled that they reinstated the side number pad as it makes it that much easier to enter numbers. The problem is that they centered the touchpad on the standard keyboard instead of centering it on the laptop. This leads to constantly hitting the right side which causes the side screen to open.

Love it so far

POSTED BY: Sami , Ontario, Canada
Overall rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

I've had this laptop for about a month now, (I received it as a graduation present) and I have no complaints. It is nice and neat looking, and the keyboard is great! Easy to type on. The laptop will be put to the test this fall though, when I start college. I wish it came with Microsoft office or documents though. It has Evernote, which I haven't figured out how to save my notes as a document yet (or if it even has that ability) Overall, good laptop. I like Toshiba so far.

a good decision

POSTED BY: tc , Bowling Green, Ohio
Overall rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

The new laptop is a replacement for an old 2009 model which crashed. What I like about the new one is the long battery life and the improvement in speed. I am learning to use Windows 8 the new to me operating system and intend to use theToshiba website to get my questions answered and issues resolved. Glad I chose this particular model because I am able to manage the bells and whistles without creating the black pit of no return... where I have been before with the old laptop.

I had bought this computer for a cheaper price. But besides the price it is an amazing laptop. This is my first windows 8 laptop and I'm happy with it

Good machine

POSTED BY: Pici
Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

The machine is good and offers excellent value for the price. It's a bit heavy but I knew that from the beginning. My biggest critique does not concern your product but the misguided product called Windows 8.1. it has made my life difficult and having to be subjected to Microsofts product development proved to be frustrating. I wish Toshiba would join HP to give us the opportunity to use Windows 7 as the operating software. I really will turn to Apple next time if Microsoft doesn't figure out that we are in business and cannot waste valuable time learning their absurd OS changes. This is not a reflection on Toshiba. I have purchased your products in the past with success. But you need to take a firm stand with Mircrosoft like HP has.

A nice piece of equipment

POSTED BY: My first laptop purchase , Caledonia, NY
Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

Quite happy with the equipment for having it a little over 30 days Wondering if I can change the sensitivity of the touch pad, for sometimes it just doesn't want to move I do not have enough knowledge to change the laptop settings. I fuddled around a bit to get it where it is. Though it has nothing to do with the equipment, I strongly do not like the right side task bar opening up with the date showing up in huge font every time I use the scroll bar..for the life of me can not change the settings on that!! Love the number keyboard on the right side Starts up and shuts down quickly

A good choice

To be Honest ! I, Was very Surprised that with a brand new Computer You get no Literature . Espically when most of these new computers these days are running Windows 8 or 8.1 they should really provide people with at least the basics to get them started !

GOOD FOR PRICE.

POSTED BY: Consumer
Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

Easy to set up. Fast for my basic needs. Streams fine. I'll never get used to Windows 8/8.1 and the charm bar and all the other unnecessary change for the sake of change. Seems like this is meant to be a touch-screen but it's easy enough to customize and bypass the Apps start page. Also have constant usb mouse recognition problems but that may be the mouse for all I know. I only use this laptop to surf and stream and it works fine.

Being new to laptops (used desktops for over 20 years) the machine has performed better than I would have expected. And since I live within Tornado Alley, the laptop and its hot spot will be going down into the storm cellar with the family to be updated on storms coming.

It is good in every aspect except for Windows 8 and during typing, the P letter requires more pressure than the others. Without that extra pressure P might not come out

I like the Toshiba Laptop. The mouse plug in and the power cord plugs into awkward places on the laptop. They always seem to be in the way, especially the mouse connection. It is right where the mouse sits.

Love the LapTop, Hate Windows 8. This Laptop is not a touch screen system and I find it very hard to navigate from one screen to another. One problem, I could not load windows one day. I tried the on line support to no avail, then I called Toshiba support and she had me up and running again within 5 min. Thanks, Toshiba !!

Like laptop - hate Windows 8

POSTED BY: Mason's gram , Oswego, NY
Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

I have no complaints yet about my new Toshiba laptop itself but do not like Windows 8 at all. I am finally learning how to do some things on it, but this 71 yr. old lady is having a hard time with it. Also, don't know if it's the computer or the Windows 8, but things like "driver not working" and other pop ups show up and sometimes I have a hard time getting rid of them. So many questions and hard to get answers. As I said computer ok, but not the software.

Decent product at a fair price.

Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

I like the machine. It is lighter than my last laptop. I especially like the numeric keypad on the side. I use it often. Windows 8 tiles seem more useful for touch screen and I am most often inclined to go to the desktop. Also, I don't find apps useful on a laptop. Opening the browser is slowed by the fact 2 tabs open at the same time, Toshiba and Microsoft. I don't use either as I already enjoy another home page. I just want the search engine when I open.

Horrible Sound

POSTED BY: jaljsocal , Los Angeles, CA
Overall rating: 3 out of 5 3 out of 5

The general specs of this product are decent for the price. However, the sound is beyond horrible. Fisher Price toys have higher sound quality. I will be debating about returning this computer solely upon the disgusting sound quality. You can't even connect external speakers and get better sound...it's simply the computer's bad hardware which is incapable of producing quality sound.

Connection Issues with the Default Gateway

POSTED BY: pcgoddess , Sacramento, CA
Overall rating: 3 out of 5 3 out of 5

This is a problem with the Toshibas, I have read on many forums about it not staying connected to the network. I am online around an hour or less and my network connection goes down. It says to update the drivers, but that did not work. Constantly having to diagnose my internet connection and it then says it fixes the "Default Gateway not found" and then my internet connection comes back up. This problem is not with my home connection, the other members of my family are not having issues with their connectivity.

Basic PC

POSTED BY: Pat , Maidens, VA
Overall rating: 3 out of 5 3 out of 5

I wanted an inexpensive PC with enough horsepower to support a particular requirement. It seems to do that OK so far. The keyboard sensitivity is poor and the sound quality is awful. Otherwise it seems to be OK to do what I bought it for.

Can't talk to my printer without the internet

POSTED BY: Rock , NM
Overall rating: 3 out of 5 3 out of 5

I am very disappointed in this computer that I cannot print without the internet and have not been able to use the scanner on my HP Officejet pro 8500 wireless printer. I would think that a computer of this generation should be able to send and receive to printers. I am on a hotspot off my phone and do not want to have to be on the internet 100% of the time I am working on my computer. The only way I can scan is to save the scan to a thumb drive then upload it to my computer. This is a ridiculous situation. I also thought this computer had a touch screen and if it does, I can't figure out how to activate it.

Ok Laptop

POSTED BY: Java , Georgia
Overall rating: 3 out of 5 3 out of 5

From the very beginning I had trouble with this laptop. My son tried to log on remotely and was not able to . Finally he asked if I had Norton and I said yes it is driving me crazy. He told me how to uninstall it and then he could log in. Norton is a pain. He said probably they paid Toshiba to install in on their laptops. It had prevented me from doing other things as well that now I can do.

Where's the sound????

POSTED BY: rico , memphis, tn
Overall rating: 3 out of 5 3 out of 5

Although this laptop is easy to use, the sound quality is in the dark ages. It is very poor and when I consider another computer, I will reconsider my choice. Also, the advertised battery life is about 2/3 of the actual life. This too, is not acceptable.

I hate Windows 8!

Ok machine

POSTED BY: beaclan , Tulsa, Ok
Overall rating: 3 out of 5 3 out of 5

I don't have any real dislikes about the Toshiba except two items. First, I would like another USB port. Second, I would like for it to have blue tooth. Since it doesn't, I have to use a USB device and it uses one of my blue tooth ports. I didn't like Windows 8 so I got a copy of Windows 7 and replaced it with it. Luckily, you had all the drivers I needed but your website was fairly cryptic about which ones I needed to use. I was finally able to figure it out but it took me a couple of days to get it right. I'm still not sure if I got the graphics driver correct but it seems to be working ok. It is not as high a resolution as I would like it though. Speed and battery life are fine. The only other gripe is that plastic seems a little brittle to me. Not sure if it can adequately protect the devices.

Overall rating: 1 out of 5 1 out of 5

Windows 8.0 is awful. You have no options to turn it off or downgrade it. Windows 8.1 is not any better. I hate cloud storage, the lack of accountability or privacy, so you cannot pay bills or enter sensitive information. The applications cannot be turned off and the desktop cannot be customized. I am currently "piece-mealing" foreign parts together to create my own laptop and VPN and eliminating these products from my life.
