for simple users that we are, this is all we need and more. Windows 8 is a learning adventure, but OK once you figure out the concept

This is our 3rd Toshiba Satellite, we have had very good luck with these units, no trouble at all, very reliable, It has a i3 procerssor w/6 Gigs of memory, and 750 gig HD. It is very fast and I am just now getting used to Windows 8, All of my other machines have Windows 7.

I've had this computer for almost a month. I had previously ordered 2 from HP since Thanksgiving and had to return both due to malfunctions, and was not interested in another from HP; so I went shopping found this Toshiba and was impressed. My advise to anyone is NOT to purchase a computer with an external CD/DVD drive, which was the problem I had with HP. I've talked to Toshiba tech support a couple times and they have been very helpful.

I purchased this laptop due to features and price point. I have a very new top of the line desk top at home, but spend a large amount of time on the road. This PC has the speed to accomplishment all my tasks for work with ease and I have not been able to bog it down with any downloads as of yet. I feel it is a great value for the money. It was actually noticeably less expensive than my kids tablet with much more real world functionality. I really like the full size numbers keyboard and am quite impressed with the video quality. The only area it is lacking in is speaker quality. The only other downside is lack of bluetooth connectivity.

No hard drive indicator light

I'm very satisfied with everything about the laptop except you cheaped out on a hard drive indicator light. Some software downloads don't give you any indication that they are working and the only way a user can tell is to see the hard drive indicator light flashing. Without one, you just wait and wait and wait and hope things are happening.

I really like my new computer. The only down is the speakers are pretty bad.

Almost perfect but one thing is the sound card

Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

Ok when I first got this computer it was amazing, fast start up, great performance, but, however, the sound card on it is terrible( i have the laptop with a 750gb hard drive with an i3-3120 with 6gb of RAM, Toshiba satellite C55-A), i mean it is just terrible. its all high pitch and i don't hear any bass what so ever. Side from that its a great computer, i wouldn't buy it if audio (like my self) is a big deal to you. However everything is is great.. thanks for reading

although it has no Bluetooth, and its charger is getting hot but look at the good sides monstrous Hard disk,RAM,internet speed and its offline activity, modern Eco friendly sound/power and most of all affordable in wallet.

Excellent value

Great laptop for a low cost. The only thing I wish it had is a scroll bar on the touchpad, but I use a mouse most of the time so it is not a big problem.

Very Satisfied

Excellent computer. Great product for the price. Nevertheless, speakers sound awful. I have to use my headphones only.

I think this a good computer, but the features problem is that the Ethernet cable and the HDMI cables attach on the right hand side where my mouse is. They are in the way all the time. Had I realized this, I probably would not have bought it

horrible sound

no a HD picture or video. Good price, really bad speaker sound

Horrible sound and Windows 8 is terrible

I liked my previous Satellite and that's why I bought another one. So far my experience with the C55-A5285 has been largely negative compared tox the previous model. CONS: 1) The textured plastic on the outside and inside looks and feels cheap and will most likely trap dirt in the grooves and be hard to clear. 2) The keys are slippery and have no relief at all. They are more difficult to use than my previous Satellite. 3) The speakers are just horrible. There is no enhancement you can make through the earphones that will improve the sound. 3) It would take a hundred pages to describe just how bad Windows 8 is. Should Toshiba be faulted for Microsoft's terrible error with Windows 8? YES! In fact Toshiba should tell Microsoft, "Your lousy operating system is making people not want to buy this computer." You can get some relief from Windows 8 by installing Classic Shell, but why should you have to install a program to try to hide your laptop's horrific operating system? Millions of people buy laptops for intensive business purposes, as I do. Windows 8 is designed for people who liked to be entertained by their laptop. It is not a suitable business tool by any means. Unless you overcome it with 3rd-party software, your work productivity will be greatly slowed down by Windows 8 as you constantly search for things that were readily at hand in Windows 7, slogging your way through layers of ugly, ugly commercialized graphics. 4) Ditto for the e-mail program. My ISP doesn't work with the pre-installed mail program, so I'm forced to use Windows Live Mail, another example of terrible design for a business person who needs an extensive file system and readable font sizes. 5) My laptop starts to make a slight grinding noise after the first hour of use. Yes, computers are getting cheaper and more powerful. But guess what, Toshiba and Microsoft? Many users don't want more power and speed, we want MORE FUNCTIONALITY. More comfort and efficiency. More work speed, not computer speed. My previous Satellite had half the power of this one, but that was more than enough for my needs. Windows 7 worked fine. My previous Outlook Express e-mail worked fine. The speakers were great, at least through the earphones. Why are Microsoft and computer manufacturers blind to consumer needs? Why do they not assess our needs before designing a ridiculous operating system like Windows 8? Why would Toshiba market a laptop with this much power, and these puny speakers? Hardware and software designers are out of touch with consumer needs.

In addition to my comments below I have two things to add after using this computer for 10 days. 1) There is really a problem with the keys. You have to hit them quite deliberately, which slows you down. I am missing keystrokes and making corrections in EVERY sentence. 2) The function keys don't work! After researching this problem extensively I was unable to solve it. I regret this purchase. It is not up to part with past Satellites.
