Good laptop but with issues

POSTED BY: Juan
Overall rating: 3 out of 5 3 out of 5

It is a good machine for the price. The wide screen is great and the lap top is not heavy. The battery lasts long and the keyboard buttons are soft. But the audio quality is surprisingly poor. The built-in speakers are the worst I've heard on a well-known brand lap top. When I connected the audio plug to my external amplifier I was also very disappointed by the sound quality, nothing that compares to my previous Toshiba, bought more than 4 years ago. I also miss the volume dial. It was great for people that work with music of when you are making skype calls. The position of the leds is inconvenient. You cannot see them. It's just a few simple details that could have been better thought.

Hardware is lacking

I bought the toshiba satellite because it was inexpensive and seemed to have good specs for the price point. However, after working with it for 3 months I am regretting it. Overall, the laptop looks nice, and for the most part I like the keyboard. However, there are some major problems: 1. Power button usually does not respond when pressed. Both my wife and I have trouble turning the laptop on. It seems that the power button does not work about 75% of the time. We've had more luck simply opening and closing the screen a few times. 2. Touch pad is terrible Sometimes the touch pad doesn't respond (possibly when the DVD drive is being accessed) and somtimes it is super sensitive. We often end up switching between tasks inadvertently when we're simply trying to move the pointer. It's possible that's a windows 8 issue. 3. DVD player often will not eject Seems to be another button issue. I keep a paperclip on hand at all times and now use that more often than the eject button. 4. Windows 8 Movie Maker doesn't include DVD burning ability Again, a Windows 8 issue (Windows 8 has a ton of issues) but this is a serious problem. In order to burn a DVD after you've created a project, you have to export an MP4 and load it into a third party program to burn it. 5. DVD burner fails more than it succeeds We have been going through a lot of blank media because the DVD burner coasters about 2/3 of them. 6. Reboot required after each DVD burned Every time that we successfully burn a DVD, we have to reboot the system since it stops recognizing media.

Terrible speakers and sound!

Previously I had a Toshiba Satellite laptop with great sound. This one is TERRIBLE. I would not of bought it if I had known this. Repeat terrible sound performance whether plugged into external speakers or using the very inefficient built in speakers.
