A Great Buy !

Had no issues with this notebook to date. Everything worked as it should. This notebook runs quiet, is fast (added an additional 4gb ram), and runs off the battery for over 5 hours.

First Time Laptop

This is my first laptop, having only used desktops in the past. When I was shopping I looked for something reasonably priced and that would suit my needs. This one met both needs and has not disappointed me.

Great bang for the buck

Nice laptop, I am amazed that however hard I make it work it stays cool. I added 4gb first thing to add up to 8gb. Toshiba did a good job here... too bad Windows 8 is such a junk pile. I think I will back this one back up to Windows 7. It is also surprisingly fast. One of the other points, most cheaper laptops, the connection point for the display is very flimsy... this one is not.

Great Laptop, Quick Speed

Very good laptop. Currently in Online school and it works perfect for my needs. Quick response when I hit power button. And battery last for a couple hours when not using power cord.

Toshiba Satellite C55D-A5107 Laptop

I've bought two of these, one 15inch and one 17inch. Both are a great deal for the price. Very easy to use, fast, nice display. My only con is the keyboard is a little stiff and especially the space bar needs to be hit harder than should be necessary.

Great Laptop for a Great Price!

I enjoy this laptop, I haven't had any problems with it what-so-ever. One out of two things that bothered me is the constant updating it did in the second and third week, but of coarse it's worth it. The other is the volume, it's decent, but I wish it could have been louder. Other than that, it is a pretty good computer; if I'd go back in time to purchase any laptop, I'd surely buy this one.

Very good forthe money

Evrything is great except the mouse needs to be in the middle of the computer. I don't like windows 8.1, but that's not your problem.

Great laptop, but hate Windows 8!

I was very thrilled to find such a bargain on a laptop with all the features this one has. I was disappointed that it did not have the games I was used to coming with the other computers. I am not a kid and do not spend my time playing a lot of games, but did enjoy having the Solitaire and Hearts and such. This one seems to be geared for boys and men more than an older person who actually uses my laptop for work. This is where the Windows 8 part comes in. When I first got this thing, I had to have my nephew show me how to even get to my welcome/sign in screen! It came with worthless instructions that did not help me learn my way around on here.He had been given a Toshiba much like mine for his birthday and had had more time to "tinker around" with his to figure it all out. All I wanted to do was get moving with my work....not have to attend classes . I am a writer, not a computer whiz kid. I can read and I can follow instruction...when any are give! Since these things are changing faster than such instructions can even be printed, I doubt any of them come with such information, which was VERY disappointing to me and MOST frustrating! I had Windows XP before and it worked great! I can't say often or loud enough how much I HATE the Windows 8! I like a product that offers me the ease and convenience of as few steps as possible to get to my bottom line of doing what I use a computer to do, and Windows 8 does NOT do this trick for me! Changing something doesn't always make it least for the consumer.. ON THE PLUS SIDE, I LOVE THE LOOKS AND THE SIZE OF THIS NEW COMPUTER. IT 'S SLIM SIZE AND LIGHT WEIGHT ARE CONVENIENT. IT IS QUIET AND I LOVE THE WAY IT NEVER GETS HOT LIKE THE OLD ONE DID! I had to keep a small fan blowing on the old one and propped up on whatever I could find to keep it raised up, as the things they sell in stores are of no real use there....some actually make it worse. I do wish I could find a coated wire sort of piece to enable me to prop this one up for a more convenient/comfortable way to type (sort of like keyboards with tabs), but, as yet, have not found anything to suit my purpose. Perhaps building such a thing into the undersides would be an added benefit?

Lighter than my old Toshiba. Only complaint is the charms and start page appear without my wishing them to. Rather irritating.

Would have 5 stars - but for the camera display - which is not very clear and is blurry. Good start up speed, excellent display and wonderful for the price.

Keyboard not the best

POSTED BY: tek , University of Illinois
Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

This is a great laptop from almost all perspectives, but the keyboard needs some redesign. The keys sometimes do not respond while tying fast but that could just be me. My major complaint is that the space bar is too small. There is an ALT key on each side of the space bar so I think one could be eliminated giving more room for the space bar.

Put some Bass in the sound!!

POSTED BY: Truluv , Richfield, MN
Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

The only thing I refuse 2 understand about this laptop is the poor sound quality coming from both the laptop & the headphones when connected. There is no bass whatsoever when listening to music! My older Toshiba Satellite sounds perfect compared to this!!

Great Laptop

I have previously used a Toshiba laptop and was pleased with it. However, I decided to try another brand after several years. When it became time to replace the brand that I had purchased I decided to go back to a Toshiba laptop. I am extremely pleased with the one I just purchased. It is simply wonderful to use and it meets my needs perfectly.

Love the computer, hate the OS

Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

I love the laptop. It's perfect for what I want to do with it, mostly email and surfing the net. I absolutely hate Windows 8.1 which it comes with. Still trying to decide if I will put Office on here or use an older laptop I have for that. I really like having the number pad on the keyboard, never seen a laptop with that before.

So far I am happy with my purchase. It was a good value and has been performing very well. I will be loading more programs on this computer so look forward to some years of good service.

The laptop works ok but I don't like the 8.1 Microsoft program.

You get what you paid

Overall rating: 3 out of 5 3 out of 5

I know its not the best laptop on the market, but the problem is an awful keyboard and pad, its annoying traying to use this lap, but i dont know if Windows 8.1 is what it fails or the laptop itself. Too basic laptop.

Good value, inconvenient layout

POSTED BY: PDeeK , Washington, DC
Overall rating: 3 out of 5 3 out of 5

I previously purchased a Toshiba because it came with a basic version of Office. Sad to see that go. The layout is very inconvenient. The USB ports are on the right (majority of people are right-handed) and too low to the area where you use the mouse. I wanted to return for another brand but work prevented me from getting it back in time. Otherwise, I don't get a lot of freeze ups and it functions for what I need.

Trouble with screen

POSTED BY: Koze , Toledo,Ohio
Overall rating: 3 out of 5 3 out of 5

I like the laptop however last week a constant red line developed and stretches across the whole screen. It's always there, is very distracting and not going away. What is that and what should I do ? This laptop was purchased new and is less than 2 months old.

Have had multiple problems with printing. Will only print 2 pages at a time. touch pad is not easy to slide finger over. Can't return because I am out of my 15 day limit but less than 30 days.

Evaluate WIN 8.1

POSTED BY: Al , Easton PA
Overall rating: 2 out of 5 2 out of 5

Extremely slow! Only 3 USB ports; two very close together. Difficult to use 2 USB devices at the same time. My first Toshiba was a WIN 95 CCD335; it still works; but the same closeness of hardware still exists after more than 15 years. I would have thought the problem would be recognized by now. I bought the unit to evaluate WIN 8.1 Overall, Toshiba is reliable; but step up the configuration with a more aggressive processor and memory!

The internet craches too often

With this Windows 8.1 it flips to much even when I don't want it to. When you open one of the windows 8 program you cant exit out of it.
