Amazing laptop for the price!

POSTED BY: HDavis , Pensacola, FL
Overall rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

With a 4th gen i7, 2 hard drive bays, and being expandable up to 32GB of RAM, I imagine this laptop is going to last me a long time. I just came from an Acer 7552g-5430 which was a great platform for the price as well, but I just couldn't stand the 3core AMD cooking my desk anymore. This Toshiba is phenomenal with the performance, and runs cool. I would like to find a good longer lasting battery though, although this laptop lasts about 2 hours with 2 additional 1080p monitors hooked up and multiple programs running, heavy usage. I'm very satisfied with this laptop, and very satisfied with Toshiba.

Overall rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

Picked this laptop up today and I must say that I'm impressed. A 4th Gen Intel CPU, Full HD, Bluetooth, and a good backlit keyboard. The keaboard feels solid as well. The only downfall is the battery. I'd expect the battery life to be much better with Haswell. This computer is for school use, but I can definitely multitask with no problem. I can stream music, type this review, while having multiple applications in the background.

Toshiba Satellite P75-A7200 Laptop

Overall rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

Quite happy with this laptop except for one item. The wireless connection continually fails while on-line. It requires being reset. I had to hardwire my internet connection from my modem to the computer in order to halt that. Sort of defeats the purpose of wireless, doesn't it? Otherwise, the machine is working well. It does have a lot of bloatware on it. Don't use Norton--it's ineffective. Don't care about x-box app or many other apps. I chose Toshiba because I prefer having the number pad on the right side of the keyboard. Makes it more like a desktop keyboard.

Great Desktop-Replacement Laptop

POSTED BY: Kerbart , Elmwood Park, NJ
Overall rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

Heavy, big, cumbersome. But you don't expect something else of a 17" laptop. This is not a machine to be used "on the road," this is your desktop that you can take with you if you want, and it does not disappoint. Good: I like the screen, the speakers are great, and the machine works reliable and fast. Space for an extra hard disk, and two empty slots for memory expansion make upgrading memory easy and relative cheap as you don't have to "overbuy" (e.g. 16 GB to expand from 8 to 16) memory. There's a DVD reader. Yay! Many laptops don't have one these days and it's one of those things you rarely need. But if you do need it, it's pretty awesome to have. The lit keyboard is great (mainly because it means the keys can't wear off) and a numeric keypad on a laptop this size is a given but still good to have. Aside from the layout of the cursor keys no complaints. Is it comfortable? No, but it's a laptop keyboard and I've seen much, much worse. Finally, a nice touch is that video and audio ports are all on one side. The number of times I've hooked up to a projector/speaker combo with a cable that for the last 5" splits up in a separate VGA and audio cable, which doesn't work when audio and video are on opposite sides... I like to think this was on purpose and shows that it's well thought out. Windows 8 -- Love it or hate it, I love it. Responsive start screen that doesn't take 30s to get built (like the W7/vista start menu) and overall many improvements compared to older windows version (especially file copy). Yes a few things are different but I got used to it pretty quickly and I really don't understand what all the commotion is about. Not so good: I've gotten used to the convenience of a finterprint reader and was surprised to see it missing. Also, a layout where the heat sink is on the right side is not optimal. Put this machine to it's paces and your mouse is on the right side (which I boldly assume is for 90% of the users) it will feel like you're holding your mouse in front of a dry blower. It's not the end of the world but I would have preferred the heat sink on the left side. Finally, an internal USB port for a mouse would be nice. Modern mouse dongles are tiny but it's something that sticks out and this is not a laptop that goes easily in a bag. Yes, bluetooth mice are another option but until Microsoft gets its act together that will not work for most users (it took me a week or two to get my bluetooth mouse working reliably without disconnecting all the time under Windows 8.1).

I love this laptop! It can be upgraded to 32GB's of RAM. and I believe a 2TB Hard Drive. Not many laptops have a Motherboard in them that allows you to do that. Plus it has an extra space if you take the bottom panel off, for an extra Hard Drive! It is in the top 2 of the best laptops I've ever owned! I am in College, for Computer Information Systems, and I have an Associates of Applied Science degree in Information Technology/IT Professional. I also have my CompTIA A+ Certification, so I know what I'm talking about, and you can 100% trust what I've aid in my review. This is a SUPER LAPTOP!

P75-A7200: great desktop replacement

POSTED BY: Moish , Massahusetts
Overall rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

My ancient Compaq desktop with XP needed to be replaced with a faster, more modern PC and the Satellite P75-A7200 has been an excellent choice. It can run all my legacy 32-bit applications as well as new 64-bit applications, and it executes them rapidly. The 1920x1080 HD screen is good for a laptop, though I wonder if the on-card graphics could display to a higher-resolution monitor. Some OS and software comments: though the laptop comes with trial versions of Windows Office, Norton security and various games, it is not too arduous to remove them and install your preferred security suite and other applications. Windows 8 is obnoxious as installed, but after shutting Windows 8 live apps (e.g. News) which consume bandwidth, and installing Classic Shell to bypass the start-up app screen, it's OK.

Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

This laptop is a nice laptop for a someone one the computer everyday. It is powerful and responds very quickly. Graphics are very nice for photos and pictures and sound quality is good. The battery life is average for a laptop. The one drawback of this laptop is the touchpad. The left and right click buttons are too small. Most times when I go to perform a left click, I have to move my cursor back to where I wanted it to be because it moves when I try to hit the itty bitty left mouse button. Also there is a built in feature in the touchpad that locks out the keypad. It is very annoying and I have not figured out how to disable it yet, so I am working and then all of a sudden my pointer does not move and I realize I have hit the hidden button that does not illuminate until activated. The last issue is that the touchpad has a feature built in that allows the user to swipe the pad and switch from one screen to another. Unfortunately it is too sensitive and I am always switching screens when I do not want to. Once again very annoying.

Mouse Pad Frustration

POSTED BY: Travelertd

There is no scrolling ability on the mouse pad. It is very frustrating to navigate web pages without it. I also do not like the the number lock is not automatically on when you turn the laptop on.

Perfect except for Windows 8.1

POSTED BY: Bonzoid , Dallas, TX
Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

My only regret on this desktop replacement is that it came with Windows 8.1, the most miserable excuse for an operating system ever. The laptop itself is fabulous...backlit keyboard, super fast with very little freeware or trialware cluttering up the hard drive...even the speakers rival those on my HP Touchsmart All-In-One. I'd definitely recommend this one to anyone looking for a full size laptop.

Great heavy duty machine

POSTED BY: wheels2keep , South Carolina

Have had no problems with mine. Works like a well oiled big rig lol. Keeps up to date with the essentials needed to keep running smoothly and that is important to me where as I do lots of research and moving around. Durability is the ultimate not to say I would go ahead and bang it around but I am a paraplegic of eight years now and used to like my HP , as of now I am siding with Toshiba due to the quality of the technology, service and easy to use access anywhere I go.

The reason why I say "I THINK I BOUGHT A LEMON!", but then recommend it to a friend, is because 2 friends of mine bought the same laptop, and they are great! It had a problem with recognizing USB devices like an external hard drive, wireless mouse, etc., so I exchanged it for the P75-A7100, same price, same everything, except this one came with Windows 8.1, and so far, so good! All features are great, and Consumer Reports rates Toshiba as the most reliable brand after Apple, so you can't go wrong!

Good laptop overall hate Windows8, wish I never bought it for that reason, scroll pad way too big moves your curser around when you brush on it. Delete key and arrow keys much too small poorly placed. Love the backlighted keys, slim design and color.

Very nice laptop

Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

We like the the large screen, the color and the weight. For such a large laptop it is very light weight. Has nothing to do with the Toshiba but you should not have put windows 8 in it. What a terrible operating system.

Lap top very good overall. Minor design features. DVD drawer tucked under rim, hard to see draw, ejection button and indicator light. 3.0 USB ports , lighting bolts tucked under rim, small hard to see, plenty room next to ports. Major reason for only 4 stars, NO Hard Drive Indicator Light. My 10 inch Toshiba net book has one. Do scans updates, monitor light for status of Task. This unit can't tell what's happening. Poor design.

I really love my new Toshiba laptop. There is only one think I am not completely happy. On my last Toshiba laptop you were able to scroll with the laptop mouse. This option is not on this laptop and because I do a lot of reading online I would have liked to have this option. Without being able to scroll by running my finger along the side or top of the mouse my hand becomes cramped. Without it I have to hold down the left side and scroll with my finger. I was very disappoint with this, but am very happy with everything else. I know I can get a regular mouse and be able to scroll, but I shouldn't need the extra accessory to be able to do this. I am no long use to using this type of mouse because I used the laptop mouse on my other laptop for the five years that I owned it.

Neither will Windows Media Player. i downloaded VLC Media and can watch them. This is a beautiful machine for a great price, but I want the WiDi.

Bad sound

POSTED BY: Rosenberg , Palo Alto, CA
Overall rating: 1 out of 5 1 out of 5

For the most part, the computer works fine delivering all its advertised features. However, if you want to watch movies, play music, play games, or do anything to do with sound, you will be disappointed. The sound on this computer has no volume. DTS doesn't work as expected and ALL the configurations possible do not bring volume to the system. Some of the configurations in fact, bring bad quality sound. If sound is important to you, AVOID this computer.

Wish I had never seen it

POSTED BY: Jedd , Hamilton, Ohio
Overall rating: 1 out of 5 1 out of 5

The screen is crystal clear. I have very large hands and enjoy the large keyboard, however the mouse touch pad is so large that the heels of my hands constantly touch it. This results in the cursor jumping all over the place and I inadvertently add text to some random section of the document. I then have to fix it and find the point from which it jumped and retype. This also results in documents closing or others that are reduced to the bottom of the screen opening on top of the one I'm working on. It also leads to frequent (very frequent) deletion of text that was just typed. I'm trying to figure out how to disable the mouse pad so I can use a wireless mouse. Considering that I just bought the laptop, I will have to do this until I buy my next one (perhaps in 2017 or 2018) unless I just cut my losses and box up the Toshiba P75-A7200 and stick it in the closet. I have resorted back to using my old laptop when I'm going to be working where there isn't a solid surface for a wireless mouse. This is my third Toshiba laptop and I've loved the other two, but would not recommend this one unless the heels of your hands never touch the top of your lap top.

The price was too good to be true. I7 Processor with 17+ inch screen was a dream especially because I didn't need or want a touch screen. I should have paid more attention to the reviews which was peppered with complaints about dropped WIFI. I've moved on from Toshiba and am sad because Toshiba was a company I was always confident in.

Horrible Computer

POSTED BY: Jimjay1 , Minneapolis, MN
Overall rating: 1 out of 5 1 out of 5

I have owned this computer for about eight months now and it has disappointed me almost since day 1. I bought it because it had a fast processor, but the performance has been painfully slow. It's hard to know how much of the blame goes to Windows for the disaster of Windows 8 and how much goes to Toshiba, but I am convinced that there is enough blame to go around. The main problem I've had from the beginning is how slow the computer is. I bought this to replace a 5-year-old HP laptop, and the Toshiba seems slower most of the time. Just about every window I open goes unresponsive at first. Hardware that worked fine suddenly stops working (external keyboard, mouse, webcam, iPhone, external hard drive, USB ports).
