I have been using Toshiba laptops for gaming for the last 3 years, I upgrade my Laptop to a newer one every year. I tried to switch to Lenovo but had some issues so I went back to Toshiba. An I don't think ill ever wonder off from the pack ever again!

I've had bot HP and Dell Laptops and desk tool computers. As for a desktop I find nothing that comes up to the Mac quality and performance. If you want a good Laptop the Toshiba is the route to go. I'm Not a big fan of Microsoft OS. and even a lesser fan of their windows 8 or 8.1. I use it because of one thing that is not available on a Mac.

Best Laptop

Overall rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

The Toshiba Satellite Laptop is by far the best on the market. I am a Realtor who needs a lot of memory and speed. This laptop has provided both for me. My only complaint is the Windows 8. It is a huge time waster if the mouse moves a hair too much outside the page, it goes to the active screen. It's very frustrating. But without custom ordering a laptop, all laptops I considered came with it.

I have had this laptop for over a month now. It is everything I hoped it would be. The battery life could be a bit better, but it is still good.

Over all very happy with my purchase and good value for the price. I have already recommended his laptop to a friend. Lows: 1) Was advertised as backlit keyboard, wrong. 2) Screen could be a little sharper, miss my HP screen.

Wonderful Laptop

I love the laptop (size, 10 key)0, mouse, ect). The screen has wonderful color and resolution. Speed is great. This is my second Toshiba. I have had other laptop brands before - Dell, HP, Compaq. The only thing I don't like is Windows 8. It is sooo frustrating.

Mediocre Laptop

The battery is not covered under the one year warranty. Does not have a backlit keyboard. The virtual keyboard is useless since there is no touchscreen.

Great Internal Specs, Minor Physical Problems

POSTED BY: Thasinam
Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

The S55-A5176 contains an Intel Core i7 processor, giving most end users more processing power than they would need. Consequently, this enables the laptop to boot up and shut down at a much faster rate. It also provides all of the "standard" features that laptop nowadays have, including two USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port, and a CD drive (which is becoming rarer now). However, the keyboard is somewhat difficult to manage for touch-typists. The keys don't provide much tactical feedback, and some of the keys will only work if you tap them directly in the center. The battery life is also unusually short, ranging from 2 hours on maximum performance to 4 hours on a power-saving plan. Overall, this laptop's value is great regarding the internal specs, but could focus on more of the end user functions.

My Laptop

So far, I've had a good experience with my new S55-A5176 Laptop. As with many others its a new experience with windows 8.1, but I am getting used to a new style of operating system. The one problem I encountered is the keyboard lighting. It was advertised on the container, but will not work. There may be a way to turn it on which I have not found yet, but will keep trying.

Returned in 2 weeks

POSTED BY: Dubya B , Chicago, IL
Overall rating: 3 out of 5 3 out of 5

I was disappointed with the laptop overall. First the battery life was not very good, about 3 hours. Second the battery could not be changed by the user; and finally the computer was listed as having a backlit keyboard but it didn't. Great price for the features but I could not accept the short battery life and the fact that the battery was not accessible to the user.

Hard to work with

I am an old person and the new features on this computer make it hard for me to figure things out. The on line manual is not very helpful with the things i want to do. This is my 3rd Toshiba and I am disappointed.

Not too bad for the price.

Worst purchase in years

POSTED BY: cindy , Seymour, TN
Overall rating: 3 out of 5 3 out of 5

The most frustrating item I ever tried to use. No instructions, difficult to access online instructions, very user-unfriendly. Cannot make the loaded programs start, nor can I find out how from Toshiba instructions which are non-existent.

very poor battery life

I just got this laptop about a month ago to replace my 8 years old HP laptop so far so good but I was disappointed for the battery life was not very good, about 2 hours. Second the battery could not be changed by the user; and finally the computer was listed as having a backlit keyboard but it didn't. Great price for the features but I could not accept the short battery life and the fact that the battery was not accessible to the user.

Battery NOT user replaceable

POSTED BY: H3 , Honolulu HI
Overall rating: 2 out of 5 2 out of 5

Bought this but will be returning it after realizing it would have to go back to Toshiba for battery replacement. I didn't see the italicized mention in the product description that this was so. I expected this computer last seven years as my last two had. My Sony VAIO went through four batteries. I am not willing to have a company charge me to replace a battery. Very disappointed as everything else on this machine looked promising.

This laptop is not be for gamers!

POSTED BY: Tiff , Sherman Oaks, CA

Other then not being gamer friendly it's still good for checking email and also for internet research. Had I known it would not run the 2 MMO games that I play I would not have bought it.

Disaster!

POSTED BY: crs , Seattle, WA
Overall rating: 1 out of 5 1 out of 5

The combination of the Toshiba Satellite and Windows 8.1 is a disaster. I am sick that I bought this computer. I had another computer with Windows 7 that worked beautifully. Just about everything on the new computer is difficult and/or frustrating. For example, you are on one display and another pops up for no apparent reason, etc., etc., etc. I had downloaded Picasa on my other computer easily, and used it for picture storage, editing, etc. I haven't been able to download Picasa on the new computer so far. I'm not sure what to do. I need Picasa to download my pictures from Mozy, my backup system.

Too Fragile

My old Toshiba lasted years without issue. But my new one is less than a month old and the screen broke without cause. It didn't fall or get knocked around. The warrenty will NOT cover this so I am very dissatisfied!!

Misrepresented Laptop

POSTED BY: Kondore , Cedar Rapids, Ia
Overall rating: 1 out of 5 1 out of 5

I was expecting a fast machine, it is an I7, but this is slower then Windows 98 was, constant lag with simple commands. This laptop was advertised to have touch screen and backlit keys ( a sticker on the front states so). After hours of trying to turn them on, I took it to my local tech, who tells me it has neither. I guess they got a good laugh back at the Toshiba warehouse. Ha Ha
