I own many TVs but so far this is the best for it value. Picture quality excellent. Lite weight and it's a LED. Sound is not too but bad what can you expect from a small speaker build in on a flat screen? if you want better sound. Get a surround sound system. Love it!

This TV is an awesome deal! There are people who have way too much time on their hands and scrutinize. This TV has a great picture, is great for watching movies, and XBOX looks great on it. The only downside is that the sound is tinny. If you want an awesome TV for cheap, don't hesitate with this one!

This is a great value TV. You don't pay extra for WiFi or clunky apps, so yes, this TV is not smart, rather it is an ignorant TV (I refuse to call no-frills TVs "dumb", because of the SMART TV marketing fluff). I was specifically looking for a TV that was just that - a TV. I have all the devices in the world to make it smart, so I do not want to spend extra on apps that I can use through my PS3 or computer (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Instant video, Facebook etc). It was hard trying to find a TV this big without all the worthless (to me) features. So, now that we've established the fact that I do not care for and do not want to spend money on the so-called Smart TVs, we can move on to other aspects of this review. As far as the quality of the picture goes, it is good. I don't know how people have FUZZY picture (it might have been a lemon or the reviewer did not tinker with the settings). The person that had gunk on the screen (behind it) - well, that happens sometimes. Its not just Toshiba's fault - I've had Samsungs and Sonys in the past that came out of the box with dead pixels or dirt bend the panel. I just exchanged them for a different item. That's why I usually buy such things at a local big box store (Frys in my case). Easy returns/exchanges. My intended use for this TV is gaming and movies. I have connected my computer and PS3 to it, and played at least 10 different Blu-Ray movies (multiple genres), several DVDs, tested multitude of diverse content on Netflix and Amazon Instant Video, played many genres of games on the PS3 as well as my computer, watched soccer, and regular HDTV (DirecTV) and Its performance has been ROCK SOLID. The blacks ARE black (not pretending to be/trying to be black). There is no light bleed on the edges (in dark scenes, I cannot see the edges lighting up distinctly and annoyingly bright). There was no blur in fast moving scenes (specially while watching soccer/football). Neither in movies, nor in fast racing games. So, yes, it serves my purpose well. I am a power user, but not a videophile. I am cheap, so I refuse to spend top dollar for the latest technology. I know there are better technologies out there, but I spent a good 40minutes in store, playing with all the settings to see if this TV could produce vivid colors, and brilliant, eye-pleasing images. The verdict - YES IT CAN. It might not be as good as some 480Hz , full array local dimming LED/OLED screens out there, but it does the job. AND it does it pretty well. You might have to adjust the brightness/contrast/backlight to your liking. The inbuilt picture modes work well too. The remote might look archaic or ugly to some, but it does the job very well. I like it a lot. It has nice BIG buttons, which are easy to remember/get used to. And it is snappy. My other LG TV's interface is very slow and annoying. I can switch between inputs like a breeze on this TV, and that is a BIG positive. My remote is no conversation piece, but unlike some other fancier looking remotes, it works well. And without me getting frustrated at pressing the same button thrice for my command to execute. So, to put it all in perspective, if you are an average user who will use this TV for watching Satellite/Cable HDTV, Blu Ray/Streaming movies and playing PS3/Xbox/PC games, it will do just fine. But, if you are gifted with a scrutinizing eye or are extremely detail oriented and demand nothing but the absolute best, this guy might not be a satisfying entertainment partner. For an untrained eye (read ~95% of the population) this TV will do the job. Just Fine. Stop Worrying. I can't say how long will it last, which can be attributed to - 2 days of product ownership & my lack of previous Toshiba experience, lack of fortunetelling abilities,, and recognizing/coming to terms with the fact that anything that is manufactured/man-made can turn out to be a lemon. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed (and spent a few extra dollars for an extended warranty) and hoping that this TV lasts. And yeah. This thing is FREAKING HUUGEE!! :) Enjoy your TV buying experience ;)

The 55S41U from Toshiba looked promising. 120HZ, led, 55" for a pretty fair price. Super light, super super thin. I really wanted this TV to be great. Would look great mounted as it is really really thin. Cons: Picture quality is horrible, even on HD channels. Individual pixels cups be made out and overall was just fuzzy. The sound is a joke. sounds like a laptop computer. Speakers project out of back so sounds muffled. Colors were decent and vibrant I just can't get over the sub par pic quality. I went back to where I bought it and looked at the display and sure enough when you pay attention the TV is the same way. XBOX360 looked fuzzy, nk sharpness or clarity at all with this model. My vizio m550nv was so sharp but had other known vision issues. I would not recommend this Toshiba TV if you are really critical of your picture quality. Don't mind the fuzz then 55" for pretty cheap.

I want to like it. Its such a nice deal... 1) There is no black. Its like a want-to-be black with glowing lights on each corner... and it doesnt matter how low you set Dynalight or brightness. The led edgelighting is just like spotlights in a dark room and completely ruins what might be a nice black. 2) My set turned on once, only once. It was after 10 minutes of thinking I did something wrong, and it just randomly turned on. Once I turned it off for the night, it's was just.... done. 3) While it was on, for that whole 4 hour debut, it had... I want to say dead pixels, but it wasnt dead pixels (I do have experience...). It had what looked like dust/crud BEHIND the screen, but in front of the LCD's. I'm saying literally, 7-10 specs of junk, inbetween the LCDs and screen. 3)The remote is just degrading. You buy a nice TV, and this remote is straight from 1983. Its got VCR CONTROLS, (for using a USB stick with media on it...) Overall its such a cheap remote theres not even an LED to tell you when a button is being pressed! (you may not need this, but when you're trying to diagnose why it isnt turning on, knowing the remote works is nice...) All in all, this purchase was SO bad, I will literally never go near this brand again. 24 hours and I have this many issues/complaints. Just wow.... I hope at least one person heed's my warning, and stays far far away from this junker. Bad engineering, bad parts, bad craftsmanship. Really doesnt get worse.

i had just bought the 55", 1080p, LED/LCD, 120Hz, etc... but when I plugged it in to test it out I was terribly dissatisfied. my SD, HD, and BluRay all looked Pixelated and "Grainy". my old 720p had a better picture quality. I returned it as soon as I could get it all back in the box.
