The computer works great. I've had a few minor glitches but nothing bad. My mouse froze and I couldnt move anywhere. Found out I just had to push F5 and it worked again.

Good Laptop for the Price

The only hardware issues I had are the DVD player and the bottom cover of the laptop. 1. The DVD player is difficult to open manually. The button release on the side of the DVD tray is small and too flat against the side thereby causing repeated "pressing" of the button to open the DVD bay door. It's better to use the software eject button to open the DVD tray. Also the DVD mechanism is very flimsy and you must be careful when inserting a DVD or removing it as the bay could easily bend and break. 2. The bottom cover has one small short length Phillips head screw holding the cover in place. Once unscrewed, the cover is very difficult to remove as their are plastic tabs that secure it in place and these tabs must be slid out while slightly bending the entire cover. The cover is a poor design and should be changed to add more screws to secure it in place instead of just using the plastic tabs.

At first this laptop took some getting use to. But the tutorials taught me how to maneuver around the apps. I caught on quickly and now I love this laptop. The keyboard has keys large enough for my fingers. I'm enjoying this laptop.

Toshiba Satellite

In most respects, this is a pretty good laptop for general use. It tends to run rather slowly, and occasionaly freezes, but it usually recovers without restarting. The system seems stable running Windows 8.1, and the pre-loaded programs work well--with one annoyance. Norton. It simultaneously demands that I register while warning me that the subscription is up (I never initiated subscription). The system should have had more memory installed, which I plan to do in the hope that it will run faster and stop freezing. I found it surprising that there is no card reader nor is there an HDMI port. The USB ports and mousepad also have an unnerving tendency to stop working, as well.

Excellent value

I am very happy with the Toshiba Satellite C55-A5126. It was an excellent value and has plenty of capability. I'm much less happy with Windows 8.1, but really appreciate that this Toshiba allows you to use the older desktop display.

Desktop replacement

I bought as a desktop replacement for college and it works great for that. It's light and portable but make sure you carry your charger with you everywhere because the battery life is pretty terrible. Even with the Eco setting on.

My laptop has quit working. Last week the power button would not work and then the screen went dark. I removed the battery and finally with help got the laptop back on. But now I cannot get it connected to the internet. The Windows Security Center is turned off and I cannot get it back on. I WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE FOR SOMEONE TO CONTACT ME SO I COULD RETURN THE LAPTOP TO TOSHIBA FOR A REPLACEMENT OR COMPLETE REPAIR. I HAVE ONLY HAD THE LAPTOP OVER A MONTH AND ALREADY HAVING TOO MANY UNRESOLVED PROBLEMS. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE CONTACT ME. THANK YOU, SHARON POE
