I have a guy who repairs and does all the maintenance on my computers. I have always recycled my old ones with him, and have bought used as well. this time though? I wanted new, so her recommended this to me, and I am very pleased.

I needed a replacement for an older HP laptop that was running Windows XP. This is a second computer and not my main machine so I did not need the world's fastest. This has a nice 17" wide screen and at 500 gig the hard drive is plenty big enough. The processor is plenty fast for what I do, email and browsing and showing PowerPoint presentations.

Love my machine!!

This laptop is as functional for home office use as laptops costing twice or three times as much. Great value for the money.

My wife has a Toshiba Satellite and she loves it, but I wanted a larger screen so my choice was the 17''. I love the features.

The screen size and it not being a Dell were two reasons i was drawn to this Toshiba. My issue is with Win8 and how difficult it is to use compared top earlier versions: Especially difficult with a second screen attached.

Nice and big

I like the full size keyboard and the screen. I only wish it came with Windows 7.

nice laptop

Laptop is nice with a big 17 inch screen. Getting used to windows 8 which gets better the more I learn about it. The computer is responsive and lots of features for the price.

Good laptop

Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

Over all it seems a little slower on boot up than my last computer probably all the apps they cram in there. Not especially happy with the new windows OS which seems more work than it should be, aren't revisions supposed to make use easier and not harder. The rest seems fine.

Windows 8.1 is confusing

I am struggling with Windows 8.1. The Toshiba laptop I love.

I think this laptop is a great value. Excellent speed, graphics, et al. However, I do not like WIN 8.1 and may revert to WIN 7. I think 8 might be a decent OS for touch screen, but complicates use in general.

Laptop, OK, but Windows 8 stinks!!!! Not intuitive at all. Had to download features to make it more manageable. And is very time consuming. Hard to rate a product so soon! My old Toshiba Laptop overheats and read is a common problem, I don't know why.

Mixed emotions

Toshiba makes a good product. The hardware is fine, no complaints. Unfortunately, they installed Windows 8 in it. It's hard to separate my feelings of frustration and irritation for the OS from the computer. This is by no means my first Toshiba laptop, and I have never had one die on me, but this is the first computer of any brand I've ever had that I have seriously considered killing!

not happy with laptop

I have the "C" key that does not type very well. I have to really press down hard for it type out. Also, for being a quad processor, it is really quite slow on several occassions.

Hopefully a lemon

I purchased this laptop after researching that it had greater than needed specs to run all the applications I use. It could barely run a majority of them. I checked all the settings, reviewed the forums and was unable to make it perform like it should have. I am hoping it was a combination of the horrible OS 8.1 and possible a bad build. I have since returned the laptop and purchased a competitor's laptop with lesser specs than the Toshiba and it is vastly outperforming it for about half the price. Toshiba in the past has built great machines, but I fear they may be going the way of Dell, Hp and Gateway.

Keys Randomly Won't Type

POSTED BY: Author Lori , St. Peters, MO
Overall rating: 1 out of 5 1 out of 5

After reading several of the reviews, I see that I'm not the only one who has problems with keys not typing. The main thing I bought the laptop for is to write. I normally type upwards of 90 WPM and that drops drastically when I have to go back and correct all the typos. The G, C, A, are the worst offenders. It's in the repair shop now, but I suspect they'll tell me it's in my head. :( I'm glad I kept my L505D-5983 as a back up. I LOVE that one. I just wanted a laptop with a bigger screen.

Bad OS System

POSTED BY: petmaj , Raleigh, NC
Overall rating: 1 out of 5 1 out of 5

It took about 5 months for Win 8.1 to crash and get stuck on gray screen. Not a bad machine otherwise just a lousy OS. Get it with Win 7 if you can. Win 8 should be taken off the market period!!!!

Not a computer, Windows 8 terrible

POSTED BY: jb
Overall rating: 1 out of 5 1 out of 5

I thought I was getting a computer. The most basic task that one should be able to do with a computer is to write a letter. There is no word processing program, therefore it is not a computer. Windows 8 is terrible. I can't navigate to "My Computer" or find documents as in previous Windows systems. Also, when trying to move the mouse pointer across the screen when in internet explorer the window jumps back to the Toshiba Home Page screen.

Pop Ups

POSTED BY: bloodtrakker , Tennessee
Overall rating: 1 out of 5 1 out of 5

I'm STILL trying to get enough of the junk out of that computer to make it usable. From the minute I turned it on I've gotten pop up after pop up. Every time I change pages on Google Chrome I get pop ups. And it's not Chrome because I have Chrome on all my computers. Also the keys on the key pad do not work half the time - So I have to double check every thing I type in. I realize it's a budget computer - But this is rediculous! I will never buy another Toshiba.
