Good Laptop

POSTED BY: Panhandleslim65 , Jacksonville, AR
Overall rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

This laptop has many standard features that so many at this price range don't have, i.e. built in camera. The only things I don't like are the Windows 8software (I would prefer Windows 7 64 bit) and the location of the USB ports on the right side. They are too near the front and when using a wired mouse, the wire interferes. I would have preferred them closer to the back like on my older Toshiba.

Great Laptop !!

This Laptop is sleek, lightweight, and operates at a high speed. Nice looking too. Have seen several laptops in use, and this one operates so easily. The only draw back is the speaker system. Sound quality is great when playing games, but when using SKYPE, the person you're talking to sounds like they are in a tin can. External speakers CAN be added, but that kind of destroys the reason for a laptop.

Love this Laptop!

I bought this laptop for my online classes. I love it! I would buy another one. I had a Dell a few years ago and I don't like it at all compared to the Toshiba

This is our 3rd Toshiba laptop and I think we're going to be as happy with it as we have the last two. It is fast; the keyboard and plug-in places are well-designed; the matte/textured surface is comfortable and allows a mouse to work. It is light weight and a perfect size for our needs.

Definitely a great buy! I have no regrets after purchasing this product. I never used windows 8 before this laptop, so it was hard to get used to the new system. After a few days though, I felt confident in my use of this product; I even figured out a few tricks with the built in mouse pad. I have had very few issues with this laptop and all of them were easily fixed (by myself as a person who sucks at using technology). Also, very easy setup (which I also did by myself and not with the use of the people who sold it to me). Overall, definitely a great product with a very reasonable price. By the way, I'm 18 if that helps with any decision making.

I'm not very computer oriented but I'm learning, got a lot to learn but I'm willing to keep trying. Is there somewhere a person can go on the computer to learn? Thanks for all your help! A friend in Nebraska. Go Huskers!

I had to get a new laptop after my old one died. I shopped around and found a good one at a great price. So far this computer has performed nicely. Although it there was a learning curve for Windows 8, I think it is a good system on a good computer.

very pleased with this purchase

As a teacher with a family at home, I needed a laptop that would be mine to use for school work (not share with my husband or 4 kids). After much searching, this Toshiba was the perfect choice for me. Despite most people's apprehension, I enjoy Windows 8 and am learning its conveniences. The laptop does exactly what it should do and was very easy to start up and install. It is a fast moving machine - boots up incredibly fast and switches programs quickly. The only drawback is that the speakers do not produce a great quality sound, so, unlike other laptops my family has owned, this is not a great one to use for watching a movie, etc with others. It is great with headphones for personal use, though. Nicely done, Toshiba.

Pretty good lappy...

well all i can say is this machine is great and does it's job for the price. this is not a gaming laptop so don't expect too much it. you can use it for school office and stuffs but hardcore game you should get alienware if your on to playing only but this laptop is good for the bucks and your needs.

great but some issues

POSTED BY: JAF , camarillo,ca
Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

I like it but there are two issues I have. 1. - the keyboard feel is not very good for us touch typers, too flat. A larger space between the keys would be better. The index keys, F & J, are not pronounced enough. Need larger bumps. I spend too much time looking to see where to place my fingers and correcting typed errors. 2. - I prefer using a mouse. I am right handed. There are 7 connectors on the right side, all located toward the front. Any one of the possible Cables connected interfere with use of the mouse. Connectors on the back like my old Dell would be better.

Not for gaming

For everything else like facebook and other stuff online its good for it but for hardcore gamers its not really the best

Satellite 855

Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

I have had a number of computers/laptops. This one is quick, light and just the right size for doing all the tasks I need. I also like the windows 8. It does take a little getting used to but I find it faster to get to different tasks. I don't have a touch screen but I can see where it would be very easy to use with 8. Screen resolution is good. I would like better sound but it is a low-mid range machine. The i3 core seems fast and vid's flow well.

Excellent laptop for word processing, web browsing, downloading, multi-tasking, gaming, etc. The keys on the keyboard don't always hit on the first time and the mouse pad deactivates fairly regularly.

I've bought laptops when they were priced around $2500 - many years ago. So, this Toshiba is a very good deal. Also, found Windows 8 to be easy to work with (a copy of "Windows for Dummies" is helpful). I appreciate the features that this model has. Overall, pleased with the purchase.

Good Laptop

POSTED BY: runnerlaw , Phoenix, Az
Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

The laptop is a good laptop for seniors and beginners. I would give it an excellent grade if it was not for Windows 8. Windows 8 causes the laptop to freeze up, internet explorer 10 to stop working, etc. I had a Toshiba laptop that I loved using but, it used windows 7 as it's O.S.

Really like this laptop minus Windows 8, still trying to learn to navigate and make the most of it. In the months to come I'm sure I'll learn to appreciate it as much as I do this computer, however right now it's slowing me down.

nice laptop

The computer itself is fine. The only thing is Windows 8. I am not too sure about that. Things seem to switch so fast. Windows flying all over the place. I can't find anything.

Great for the price

POSTED BY: Bill
Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

Overall this was a great laptop for my family. Windows 8 64-bit, a great power-sipping processor with plenty of RAM, an optical drive, etc. The only issue I have is with the touchpad. It is exceptionally sensitive and it will not perform a two-finger scroll or similar gestures that the software's video shows you when first using the laptop. Updating drivers did not solve this issue.

This laptop has great performance and price. It's exactly what I needed. The only issue I have is that the keyboard is very hard to use. The keys don't stick out enough for ease of typing and I miss keys constantly.

The right hand "Alt "button should be taken out and the space bar lengthened. Some of us with fat fingers as well as broken fingers manage hit the ALT key on occasion which causes lots of bad things to happen. Can be (IS) frustrating.

the real problem wih this laptop is that this is not very stable under windows 8, some times when you are connected to internet the screen freezes and you can´t work until some internet issues work again. In the page there are not drivers yet. Is not clear what happen if your system crash, how can you reinstall the system?

I generally love this laptop, especially for work, it performs well, has a good processor so it is fast and reliable. However it has one big drawback. The sound from the speakers is just awful. If you listen to a music a lot probably this laptop is not for you, otherwise you will have to buy good external speakers.

Just so so

I hate the charms on the side, sometimes I get very frustrated when I try to switch off my computer. Also, when I open an e-mail and then click on an attachment it took me the longest time to finally figure out how to get back to the original e-mail. Not very intuitive. I miss the cute animated paperclip. Also, it can be very hard to download something that somebody sent to my e-mail.

Toshiba Satellite C855-S5123

POSTED BY: Laura , Fairview, NC
Overall rating: 3 out of 5 3 out of 5

The chief complaint that I have is that the menu bar that appears when the pointer is dragged from the right to the left is very annoying. No matter where the pointer is on the right half of the screen, when it is dragged to the left the menu appears and is sometimes difficult to disengage. This problem is enough of a nuisance that I wish I had not bought this laptop. My mother's C855-S5107 is doing the same thing.

It been a nightmare that's improving each day.

I 'm going to lump Toshiba and windows 8 all in the same comment that follows: This was one of the hardest laptop i have had to work with and set up. None of the tiles on the start page work along with other software such as windows support. I was told take it back numerous times and fail to heed those wise word. i would now, but i know what headaches awaits me navigating trying to return the product through a Toshiba repair center. Never again will i make this mistake. FOOL ME ONCE SHAME ON YOU, TWICE SHAME ON ME.

Not the best on the market

POSTED BY: Fearless , Phoenix, AZ

The finger scroll pad is not smooth, but ridged. This creates an issue with Windows 8, as the side windows keep coming up with the slightest unintentional fingerswipe of the scroll pad.

I really don't like windows 8. It is not used friendly and you can't set up the computer the way you want it. It is not the laptop, it is the windows. I will be changing this to windows 7.

The computer continuously freezes and shows that it encountered an error and restarts itself. Can not run more than one program at a time with out system failure and losing all progress. I do not recommend this computer, not even for basic functions.

Every time I turn this laptop on it says I am not connected, please check connections. The Airplane mode is ON & I didn't turn it on. I have tried for 2 days to get it to turn OFF. I get it to say Airplane Mode Off but it still will not connect. Finally after 2 days it connected so I can do this review.
