Great speed and features

POSTED BY: Raygo , Honolulu, HI
Overall rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

So far I am enjoying the great speed of this computer. So many features which seem to work exceptionally well. Windows 8 takes some getting used to but after having a windows 7 phone, I am enjoying the challenge of Windows 8. Hope to continue enjoying this computer.

...upgraded an old Toshiba Satellite A215 laptop ( Windows Vista) with an HP laptop with Windows 8...however, I returned the HP with Intel i5 for this Toshiba with Intel i7( HP laptop was hard to log on with constant interruptions by popups/reminders to purchase various products)...only positive about the HP was Beats audio, that's it!!!...this Toshiba with similar options was $100 less and very responsive...completely satisfied with Toshiba laptop although I HATE Windows 8....

very nice unit

This is my first laptop altho I have a Toshiba t v, which has been trouble free and influenced my choice. This unit was also suggested by a knowledgeable electronics individual.

Great performance

POSTED BY: RedFred , Corona, Ca
Overall rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

I like the look of this Laptop, with the carbon-fiber look design. It performs well, and is set up like a normal keyboard. It's not Toshiba's fault that Windows 8 is a nightmare to navigate, so that aside, the Laptop itself is a very good unit with lots of memory and speed. I think the battery runs down a little fast (about 2 or so hours), but I read a review that once you charge it and run it down all the way a few times, it will last alot longer.

Great color and clarity but keyboard is stiff and you have to push hard to get all the numbers and letters you hit.

a straight up deal

Overall rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

This processor for this price? i'm not a huge gamer but i couldn't pass up the deal from where i bought it. the fact that it's a toshiba makes me confident that it will last. i'm not used to the chicklet keyboard or a fan of W8, but that's just personal preference. this machine stands alone perfectly. very sleek.

Excellent laptop

I love the laptop with only 2 exceptions: 1. the keys are 'separated', making it harder to type, and 2. the mouse buttons are 'clunky' not smooth.

Very Good Laptop

POSTED BY: Jim , Calera,AL.
Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

I love this laptop except for three problems. The first problem is the design of the cd/dvd drive button. Very hard to eject or open the tray because the button is really recessed too much. My second problem is with the cd/dvd drive is very loud and flimsy feeling while being used. My last problem is with the cooling fan which has a high shrill sound when operating. The cooling fan goes on and off very frequently.

Love it and hate it

I hadn't used any other laptop except for HP so I was curious to know what I would think of another brand. First, the postive. It powers up super-fast and the display resolution is really good. The bad is I HATE the keyboard. The keys are FLAT, not raised at all and are not contoured toward the top. It's hard to hit the key you want. Hate it. Maybe I'll get used to it.

Great laptop

I love this new laptop. It's easy to use. Love having the 10 key keyboard on the side. Easy setup, windows 8 took a bit to get used to but once you have it down it's simple!

This Laptop Does What it Says!

This is my second Toshiba laptop. It is dependable, has clear graphics, and comfortable keyboard.

overall it's okay but oh my god

Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

I definitely dropped this six feet off of my loft bed--scariest moment of my life, I swear to god. It landed on the top, so I expected at the very least some damage to the monitor, but my computer started with no trouble, there was no discoloration or any kind of damage to the screen, the touch pad and keyboard worked fine (once I fitted the keyboard back into place, which was not difficult), and I haven't run into any performance issues yet, although admittedly it's been less than ten minutes, but the fact that I'm typing this right now is a good sign, I think. There was a issue with the power settings, but I just re-saved them and it's been resolved. So: not really a fan of Windows 8, like most competent computer users, but considering that it survived a six foot fall straight onto hardwood, I've sort of gotten over it. I've even grown more fond of my laptop since the incident. I named her Hibiscus.

Good for the Price

The computer is a fairly good quality for the price, the battery is the most lacking part. It gets maybe three hours off the chord, if you're lucky. Aside from that, it runs great, I game with four or five other things running all the time and it handles it well.

Great performance but keyboard is flimsy

POSTED BY: Chief , Effort, PA
Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

I really like the performance of this laptop. It is lightning fast and multitasks really well. The design is really sleek and elegant. I am happy with the number and types of ports it has; especially the HDMI port. My only complaint is with the key board. This keyboard seems flimsy and the entire keyboard "flexes" up and down when you hit a key. I have two other Toshiba laptops and the keyboards on those are far superior to this keyboard. Toshiba should revert back to the older style keyboards. Other than that, I really like this unit.

Good price. It will be nice if I get my copy of Windows 8 for dummies at a sooner date.

Satellite L855-S5162 Doesn't Meet Expectations

POSTED BY: toshiba-critic , Seattle, WA
Overall rating: 3 out of 5 3 out of 5

The performance of this laptop does not meeting my expectations. When online, the laptops gradually slows down over time and I eventually have to shutdown and reboot the laptop. When turning it on, the NUMLOCK key is illuminated, but when Windows starts to load, it goes out so when I log in, I have to remember to turn the NUMLOCK key on, which is a hassle. The BIOS has no way of always enabling this key which in all other computers I have owned, this feature was always present in the BIOS. There are way too many APPS preloaded on the laptop which I will never use. Toshiba online and phone support has much to be improved. If I buy another laptop, the Toshiba will not be at the top of my list.

Wish it was better

I don't like Windows 8! There are too many steps to do what Vista took 1 or 2 steps! I'm fairly good at figuring out how to work any program or operating system; I have been watching You tube videos to learn Windows 8! I also keep losing the cursor, it freezes! I do love that it doesn't get hot!

Good laptop, horrible windows 8

This computer would be great if not for windows 8. This operating system makes the computer confusing and very hard to use. I would not buy anything with windows 8.

New Laptop

POSTED BY: Sharon , Warren, MI
Overall rating: 2 out of 5 2 out of 5

Maybe it's Windows 8 - this system minimizes/maximizes without any action on my part. I have to close out the screen and start all over. I did not receive a "how to" book with my new computer so I do not have a reference guide.

takes time to adjust

My finger doesn't always work when I want to slide the screen over, it's taking me time to get to know this new system.

Totally frustrating

POSTED BY: docvic , Ronan, MT
Overall rating: 2 out of 5 2 out of 5

The mating of Windows 8 to a computer without tuch screen capability was a mistake. I am unable to operate on the internet, screens pop-up unexplained, I am unable to delete attachments and return to main messages, I'm unable to get back to webmail main screen., the controls disappear and I have to reboot. Most of my frustration stem from windows, but Toshiba did nothing to explain the new operating system. I was just becoming proficient with Windows XP, but Windows 8 is such a radical departure I'm operating in the dark. I've used the Windows tutorial, but it is so focused on the touchscreen technology it ignores functions on a mouse operated syste.

Worse laptop ever

I have had this laptop for about two weeks now and I have not been happy at all with it. It freezes all the time and will have to power cycle it at least once or twice a day. Each time it takes forever to boot. I am not sure if this is a Windows 8 issue, Toshiba issue or both.

too many things "hidden" --- to much "stuff" unusable ---- keeps freezing up --- cannot download the Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 that was promised --- keeps trying to download updates but cannot ever complete the job. Have to remove the battery to clear the garbage. NOT VERY HAPPY. Lots of $$$ for bad performance.
