Great Laptop. Not a fan of Windows 8 because I do not need a Microsoft account except to use most of the features on the home page. I have to use Chrome for work and have everything through google and it isn't as compatible as it could be.

I was not sure about getting a Touchscreen, but after comparing this Toshiba model with others I opted for it. I like the key board - backlit, nice size, and also very nice touch. I also like the sturdy construction of the laptop itself.

The quality of Toshiba seems to be excellent....I have owned all the major brands, and I now have 3 Toshiba laptops....won't even consider any other brand, other than Apple, when purchasing a laptop! Never once had any hardware issues with any of my Toshiba laptops...quite impressed!

Great, except Windows 8

Overall rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

The machine is great. I love every aspect of it from the keyboard, rapid engagement, back lighting, and overall performance. The problem is Windows 8. IT is cumbersome and frustrating. I would gladly return to Windows 7. The machine is terrific and Windows 8.0 is terrible. ( My rankings are as if the computer had Windows 7.)

This is the third laptop I have purchased bearing the name "Toshiba". They have all lasted and refuse to die. As a result, I have purchased a new one to stay ahead of technology. The only issue I ever have with Toshiba is that the batteries do not last as long as stated. Having said that, I have also noticed that my new laptop battery does not last that long. Great computer though, I would own nothing else.

An impressive laptop

A nice setup. Not cheap but well worth the price. I hate bottom end machines as they just do not perform. The i5 chip is plenty fast enough and Toshiba has made a well balanced laptop here. I've been using and building PC's since the mid 70's so I have a good feel for what works and what does not. This laptop is a very good value for the price and has all the bells and whistles most would want. I am not a gamer so I can not comment. Other than that you will not be disappointed.

The Toshiba is user friendly & the price point is good. This is my second Toshiba. There are some mice improvements. The key back light is a nice feature and the touch screen is simple to master.

It took me a while to get used to WIN 8.1, but I love my P55t laptop. It boots quickly, connects to my network with no problems and does work and play very well. The 15.6" screen is beautiful and a great compromise between 14" and 17". I mostly use it as a desk-based system, but could use it on the go as well. So far it's taken everything I thrown at it very well, i.e. office items like documents, spread sheets and presentations as well as web surfing and movie watching. I'm pleased with my purchase.

Nice features backlighted keyboard, and great specs. Just set up my brothers new laptop, the Windows 8 takes a little getting use to, and a USB mouse may be considered, as touch pad clickers are a little hard to use, a printed manual would be nice to include, as access to features on set up is not easy.

Windows 8.1 PC Review

POSTED BY: RW , Phoenix Az
Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

This is the first Toshiba PC I have had in about 25 years. I respect the brand and believe they make quality products. I have not had any issues with the computer but do not care for Windows 8.1 and the touch screen causes me to do things I don't want to do/happen. I don't find the new windows intuitive and have a hard time getting back to basic computer file activities.

POSTED BY: BJ , Durand, WI
Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

So far this laptop has worked extremely well. The touch screen works good too. The software has become very complicated but Toshiba help has been very useful and the User Guide clears up many questions I have. I have some computer background and I feel sorry for those older folks trying to get things set up properly. This is my 4th Toshiba laptop and I will always be a fan for the machines are tough and run well.

Nice except fo Windows 8/8.1

POSTED BY: Thinkfast , San Francisco, CA
Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

This laptop has many features for a Windows 8 computer. The problem is its a Windows 8 computer! It has a full HD touch screen to take advantage of Win 8.1 features. I would prefer a faster processor, but it is adequate for most users. The keyboard is nice with adequate spacing. The overall look is nice and clean. If I were to improve this computer I would install Windows 7 (most important) and possibly upgrade the processor. Memory is good as is the hard drive capacity. 90 days of tech support is much less than the competition, which is why I would not have to be selective on which friends I might recommend Toshiba. But, I would recommend this laptop for tech savy users who know if this machine is good for them.

Great Quality Laptop!

After owning a Toshiba that was Windows 7 and ran on an i3 Intel Core processor, I found myself getting highly frustrated with the performance of the laptop compared to how much I used it so I decided to research laptops and find something more suited to my needs. After reviewing many (Toshiba) laptops, I found this one had the best rating and quality for the price range, operating system, and processor. I LOVE this laptop and all the features it comes with including TouchScreen, Apps, overall speed, and graphics. This laptop handles my multi-tasking and usage without a hitch. I do a lot of research, watch many videos (including many on iTunes), and spend a good bit of the day on the laptop. Great battery life and quality laptop!

Love the laptop but hate the mouse location. It is to far to the left (centered to the alpha keys). Great picture quality. Videos run with no lag time. Purchased because I still want a DVD slot and most no longer offer. Love it so far. Window 8 is hard to get use to but the touch feature on this computer works great too.

Good with reservations

Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

I've had several iterations of Toshiba laptops and always liked them a lot. I like this one a little more in some areas, a little less in others. To be fair, some of it isn't the fault of Toshiba, some is the frustration of Win 8/8.1. I especially like the full keyboard with number keypad. The display is beautiful! I also like that it connects easily with a bluetooth keyboard. I was a little frustrated with the screen locking up and/or going to black screen or just getting stuck in an endless loop of "please wait" - especially since I couldn't just pull the battery as in my previous versions (the battery in this one is internal). However, now that I've found the battery re-set, that frustration is a little dampened; however, the (many) causes to have to re-set are extremely frustrating. Would I buy another Toshiba? I'd probably give it one more try, but since this is a new computer, I hope I won't have to consider it for a while.

I originally bought the first laptop for my daughter's birthday gift. After I started setting the laptop all the different apps and versatility made me realize that I need it to change my own laptop that I have own since 2006, the difference in speed and graphics was spectacular. So I purchased one for my self and I am very satisfied with it.

Good Laptop-Bad Windows 8.1

POSTED BY: Coldwarrior , Sterling Heights Michigan
Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

The hardware on this is excellent, Good design. What is irritating is it is impossible to remove Apps that I will never use ie: Games. But there are others. I don't know if Toshiba or Microsoft is responsible for the useless apps but there should be a way to delete anything unwanted. There should be a Power Off Screen button. Cursuring to the bottom right is tedious and sometimes takes several attempts. Normally, I use the windows/C or D to do it.

I bought this laptop as a desktop replacement and so far I have not been disappointed. The final selection criteria came down to the fact that it had an optical drive and very good speakers. I have liked the keyboard lighting feature and the offset numeric keypad.

New To Toshiba brand laptop

POSTED BY: Miggy , Trenton MI
Overall rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

After getting tired of HP and the poor quality of their product as well as terrible tech support I decided to try Toshiba. So far I haven't had any problems with my new Toshiba Laptop. It's fast and has all the features I need. My only concern will be down the line when the battery starts to go bad. I hope it will be easy to replace since it appears I will have to open the Laptop case itself.

I like this laptop a lot I actually was loving it then one day I opened it and the mouse pad off indicator light was on and the pad wouldn't work. I pressed the FN+F5 key to turn it on and it won't work. Now its not unusable because its touch screen but it gets annoying having to use that all the time.

New Toshiba Satellite

POSTED BY: Beckers , Tampa
Overall rating: 3 out of 5 3 out of 5

I was so excited to get a new computer and I had a Toshiba that had finally bit the dust and I had been happy with it- so I went with Toshiba again. I have been so disappointed. Even with Intel 5 it is the slowest computer I have had in a long time. The flattened screen is also a bit difficult to get used to. When I got my "NEW" computer home I found books already downloaded on it. I found about 15 multimedia items already loaded on it. getting used to windows 8.1 is a challenge but doing it with a frustrating laptop makes it more difficult.

Great feature set, avg speed

POSTED BY: tduemig , Margate, FL
Overall rating: 3 out of 5 3 out of 5

Loved the styling and feel, but the speed is lacking. The i5 4200u is a fast enough processor but using 5400rpm spindle hdd is counterproductive. The screen also took a ton of tweaking to "look" right but once configured that was a non-issue. As a programmer I need beter performance so I returned this unit.. it also didnt make sense to upgrade to the i7 4500u machine as its not a true quad core. However the major selling point for me was the DTS sound.. best sound on any laptop I looked at... so much that I ordered a s55t with i7 4700mq processor instead.

Looks nice, but is unable to stream info, trailers, films, etc. Can't even watch a 2 minute movie trailer without it stopping 4 or 5 times for data stream to load. It just sits on my desk. If I need to download anything, I have to do it on my 5 year ols HP computer, transfer data on a zip drive to my brand new Toshiba. What a waste!

When plugged in it has an electric field on all metal surfaces. Geek guys couldn't feel it. Customers could. They replaced the AC adapter. I had already done that. It still has the problem. Sometimes it is faint and sometimes it is quite strong causing a stinging to my wrists when typing. I also replaced Windows 8 with Windows 7. Geeks said, "We have never heard of this problem before." Read other reviews. I'm not the only one complaining.

Keyboard malfunctions

One diagonal row of keys -- 8, i, k, comma, and the down arrow -- periodically stops responding on the keyboard and I have to switch to the on-screen keys. This slows down my typing and obscures half my document! I am a lawyer and bought this machine for word processing. Big mistake.
