Very nice laptop for the price

Initially the computer I received was faulty, but Toshiba was great about their warranty service. This new one has been flawless. I got the upgraded graphics and 8 gigs of ram on this model because I wanted a good medium spec laptop. It hasn't disappointed me. I play Guild Wars 2 on good to high graphic settings, Smite on max, Skyrim on max (so you know how it holds up). The ac dual band upgrade has already served me well, too. One issue for games is that the keyboard isn't really anti-ghosting. You can press 3 keys at the same time with no issue, however. Overall I'm satisfied with this laptop purchase. Perhaps the SSD upgrade would be worth it, but even without this thing purrs. Any software I can think to run seems to work well (games, video editors, etc). The speakers are good and loud for a laptop, too, which is a plus. Oh, and for games in windowed mode you'll need to press the function key to get f1, f2, and so on. That's the only other problem I've encountered. The webcam and mic are decent, too. I have had my new one for just over a month and things are looking good. (If you have issues with performance it's best to check power settings, and battery life will probably not be the best on here unless using low settings)

Well I'm a Toshiba person thru and thru. I've purchased five laptops over the years. I went to the site to build my own and was very excited to receive it. It took a little long to receive it, 3 weeks for the order and abt 10 days to get it delivered. I would have paid extra shipping to receive it faster. Well it's a little pricey, and was expecting the WOW effect. Didn't get it this time! I have a cheap little 13.3 Acer and it looks a lot like it just bigger. I got the best hard drive, blu ray player cd drive and lan/bluetooth offered. For the money should have maxed out ram, got the better screen and graphic controller. Lesson learned. Now I can always upgrade, but I built it and that what it is! All and all it's doing well so far and next time getting everything.

Was hoping for more and was disappointed in the final product. Specifically the touch pad is ridiculously out of whack. Battery failed after less than a month of use. This was replaced with a fair amount of ease under warranty but the timing couldn't have been worse. For the pros the screen is crisp and clear, keyboard size fits me well, and the full number pad is a must. Size and weight are nice for a 17" laptop. As for included software I could have done without about 90% of it. Overall a fairly average laptop with nothing to get excited about. For the price paid I hoped for much more.

Good, but with issues.

I waited about two months after purchase before posting the review. Overall, it is a good laptop, but surprisingly lacking in a few areas compared to my older (5 year) Toshiba Laptop Satellite model. Pros: Beast of a processor. I needed the power capabilities versus the ULV processors. 17in monitor size is a plus. DVD drive. I still use one, I like the option to do so. Power consumption. Not bad at all. Even though I use mine plugged in most of the time, you can tweak the power settings. Graphics Card. I managed to have to option to add a Radeon R9 M265X, and prefer it for photography editing and such, over the built in Intel graphics. Cons: The Screen. My biggest gripe is the poor viewing angles and sometimes washed out colors. Really, five years after buying my last laptop from Toshiba and you basically have to pay more for a decent monitor/lcd. Keyboard. Hate it. Soft, mushy, sometimes skipping keys even after being pressed. Sadly, the industry standard now. Hd. Speed wise only. 5400 RPM? it is the bottleneck of the whole system. Will upgrade to SSD after warranty expires. Graphics Card. Wait, what? You said it was a Pro and now it is a Con? Basically due to the switchable status, and sometimes it does not seem to switch. May just disable the Intel built in graphics. Having to go in and tweak it to select for certain programs or power settings seems a bit dumb. Overall. you get what you pay for. If you can, upgrade the screen. Hopefully for the cost you get better color and viewing angles. For the price I paid, I am ambivalent. It basically balances out, when it really should shine. I would have paid a lot more for equivalent specs from other manufacturers. The price I paid for what I got, configuration wise would be why I would recommend it. Take away one or two items, and likely not.

Competent PC for Photo and Video editing

I got this PC mostly for photo editing and video editing of a large library of family media from many years back. It does this job very well. And, it handles the web and communications very well too. The inside antenna seem to be able to pick up Wifi signals better than my outgoing HP laptop. I am a little disappointed in the 1080p display's colors and viewing angles. Plus, the standard battery life is not as long as other recent laptops in my house that are more energy efficient.
