London Quantum-Secured Metro Network (PDF, 480KB)

This paper covers a commercially-ready QKD metro network built in London, complete with customer access tails and an aggregated central metro node, able to support multiple customers. The solution includes a full Key Management System; encrypted classical Ethernet data on the same fibre and a Data Communications Network (DCN) for full remote monitoring at BT’s Network Operations Centre (NOC).

Satellite-based #Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) holds great potential for creating large-scale, quantum-secure networks.

Our researchers recently demonstrated a real-time QKD system capable of forming a 4.58-megabit secure key between two nodes within an emulated satellite overpass, which could help to inform future implementations of #satellite QKD.

Last week, our Head of Quantum Technology, Andrew Shields, and our Business Development Manager, Lee Johnson, had the pleasure of attending the Quantum Parliamentary Showcase at the Palace of Westminster.

Our team, alongside partners BT Group joined Andrew Griffith - Minister of State for the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology and MPs for an informative session designed to improve the knowledge and understanding within Parliament of the key technologies that will deliver the quantum economy.

This was an important opportunity to showcase the innovative quantum secure communication solutions already available for commercial deployment, as well as those in development.
