Generator Retrofit Program
Certain large, water-cooled stators have been identified as candidates for stator bar replacement due to galvanic corrosion that results in water leaks into the ground wall insulation. Toshiba's generator testing services can help identify problematic machines by providing expert stator bar life estimations and overall evaluation of the generator condition.
In the early 1990s Toshiba developed a proprietary brazing method and optimized the braze material for water-cooled stator bars that resulted in significantly improved resistance to the negative effects of galvanic corrosion in the clip-to-strand areas. Since these developments, the company has produced and installed over 20,000 water-cooled stator bars; none of which have experienced clip-to-strand water leaks.
Toshiba offers these new stator bar replacements with improved section and strand arrangements, which are designed to reduce armature electrical losses and, therefore, increase stator life and efficiency.
