EQP Global® 840

The Toshiba EQP Global® 840 motor series serves as a cost-effective alternative to meet key features of the 841 specifications, specifically designed for the mill and chemical industries. It features a robust, totally enclosed fan cooled (TEFC) design with premium construction. The EQP Global 840 series has a double shaft sealed arrangement for frames 324-365T. Frames 404T and above feature labyrinth seals on both ends. These features provide an IP56 rating, protecting the motor against moisture and contaminants entering the enclosure.  A complete heavy-duty cast-iron construction extends the motor’s operational life and minimizes maintenance requirements, reducing downtime. The Toshiba EQP Global 840 motor series provides a reliable and durable solution for industrial applications.

Overview

C-5 Rated Inter-Lamination Material

Utilizing stator and rotor laminations, the motor is designed to withstand burnout temperatures exceeding 1000°F.  These materials enhance thermal efficiency and offer superior rewindability for long-lasting performance.

 

Heavy-Duty Construction

The EQP Global series features a robust cast iron design that enhances stability and prevents common mechanical failures. This durable construction includes increased ribbing in the end bells, maximized surface area at connection points, and deep bearing pockets for added strength and reliability.

 

High Torque Output

Engineered to meet or exceed NEMA® Design B torque levels, it delivers high torque performance that prevents stalling under heavy loads and protects against electrical issues such as voltage sags

 

Ingress Protection

A totally enclosed design combined with V-ring or shaft slinger seals provides IP55 protection on frames 360 and below. Double shaft sealed arrangement for 324-365T frames and labyrinth seals on both ends for frames 404T and above providing IP56 protection, helping to prevent the ingress of humidity, dust, dirt, and other contaminants present in the environment.

 

Insulation with Wide Thermal Capability

Class F-rated insulation system with Class H varnish and magnet wire, along with a low-temperature rise at rated conditions, provides large thermal margins for extended life and reliability. The life of the insulation doubles for every 10 degrees run below the insulation rating.

 

Inverter Duty Rated

Designed for use with adjustable speed drives (ASD) for energy savings at optimum fan speed, it features an insulation system that meets NEMA MG1 Part 31 standards, can withstand sharp voltage spikes up to 2000 V in 0.1 μs, and provides speed ranges of up to 60:1 Variable Torque and 10:1 Constant Torque in Class I Division 2 environments.

 

Low Vibration

By exceeding NEMA® vibration requirements, mechanical integrity, and stability are preserved, extending motor and bearing life and reducing downtime for more reliable and efficient operation.

 

Multi-Mounting Options

Multiple drain plug provisions on the brackets, frame, and conduit box provide proper drainage across vertical and horizontal mounting positions.

 

Oversized Bearings

Oversized 300 series bearings on both the drive and non-drive ends are used to enhance durability in diverse operating conditions, significantly extending motor service life and minimizing the risk of premature failure. These robust bearings enable the motor to last up to ten times longer than those with smaller bearings.

Insulated Bearings

  • An electric motor operating on an adjustable speed drive is at risk for premature bearing failure caused by stray currents. Experience indicates using insulated bearings on both ends of the motors is the most effective way to protect the motor from destructive currents. A high level of bearing protection is especially beneficial in applications where motor maintenance and replacement are difficult.
  • Extended Horsepower Capability

  • Extended horsepower capability allows a smaller motor to run at a higher horsepower than its baseline depending on the application requirements. This provides motor users potential cost savings while achieving the same motor performance.
  • Insulation with Wide Thermal Capability

  • Critical cooling motors utilize many Class H insulation materials in its winding designs, which provides increased thermal protection. These motors operate with a very low temperature rise at rated conditions, giving them a wide thermal margin and extended motor life.
  • Low Vibration

  • A vibration level exceeding NEMA MG1 requirements provides stability and durability by prolonging motor and bearing life and helping to reduce downtime.
