It meets global demands for energy conservation and long service life, offering exceptionally high torque and low vibration for superior performance and reliability. Built with a heavy-duty cast-iron frame, oversized 300 series bearings, and advanced insulation systems, these motors are engineered for durability and efficiency. Toshiba’s in-house design and manufacturing capabilities allow for complete customization, ensuring each motor meets specific application requirements.

Overview

Low Vibration

By meeting or exceeding NEMA® vibration standards, the motor maintains high mechanical integrity and dynamic stability, minimizing component stress and extending the service life of both the motor and its bearings.

 

Ingress Protection

The IP54 design prevents the ingress of humidity, dust, dirt, and other environmental contaminants, enhancing reliable operation even in challenging conditions.

 

Cast Iron & Anti-Corrosive Design

High-grade cast iron frames and brackets, combined with cast iron or fabricated steel terminal boxes and fan covers, deliver exceptional mechanical rigidity. The use of corrosion-resistant hardware, a resilient paint system, drain, and breather enhances durability in demanding environments.

 

Interchangeable Bearing Brackets

Interchangeable C-Face and D-Flanges permit users to exchange brackets for application flexibility (2, 4 & 6 Pole), where applicable.

 

Lamination Material

With the capability to withstand 1,000°F, the motor core is less likely to be damaged in the event of a failure, offering a higher probability of successful repair and enabling repeated repairs with minimal reduction in core loss, extending the motor’s operational lifespan and reducing replacement costs.

 

Thermal Protection

Embedded 100 Ω platinum stator RTDs, two per phase terminated in an auxiliary box, help protect the motor’s insulation system from excessive heat and unsafe operation.

 

Humidity Protection

120V space heater is included. Available as an option on the 449 frame.

 

Drive Duty Compatibility 

The insulation meets NEMA MG1 Part 31 standards.  It can be paired with a UL-Listed Medium Voltage Drive, which features a motor-friendly multiphase neutral point clamped output.

 

Rotor Options:

Aluminum Rotor

High-pressure diecast aluminum rotors offer a lightweight, cost-effective solution. Low rotor inertia improves acceleration and deceleration, while excellent thermal conductivity enhances cooling. Corrosion-resistant properties increase reliability in harsh environments.

 

Copper Bar Rotor

Copper bar rotors deliver high electrical conductivity for improved efficiency and reduced losses. They provide higher starting torque and operate at lower temperatures, making them ideal for heavy-duty, high-performance applications where thermal stability and energy efficiency are critical.

Insulated Bearings

  • An electric motor operating on an adjustable speed drive is at risk for premature bearing failure caused by stray currents. Experience indicates using insulated bearings on both ends of the motors is the most effective way to protect the motor from destructive currents. A high level of bearing protection is especially beneficial in applications where motor maintenance and replacement are difficult.
  • Extended Horsepower Capability

  • Extended horsepower capability allows a smaller motor to run at a higher horsepower than its baseline depending on the application requirements. This provides motor users potential cost savings while achieving the same motor performance.
  • Insulation with Wide Thermal Capability

  • Critical cooling motors utilize many Class H insulation materials in its winding designs, which provides increased thermal protection. These motors operate with a very low temperature rise at rated conditions, giving them a wide thermal margin and extended motor life.
  • Low Vibration

  • A vibration level exceeding NEMA MG1 requirements provides stability and durability by prolonging motor and bearing life and helping to reduce downtime.
