Toshiba’s MTX2 UL Type 3R outdoor medium voltage adjustable speed drive is one of Toshiba’s most innovative offerings, designed with a totally enclosed cooling system that eliminates the need for an air-conditioned E-house, reducing both footprint and construction costs. This robust drive features an advanced enclosure design and power section topology with removable power modules, improving Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) and providing reliable performance in harsh environments. Specifically engineered for outdoor mounting in remote locations, the MTX2 series is available in UL Type 3R/4/4X ratings and is built to withstand extreme environmental conditions.

Lower Cost of Ownership

Eliminates the expense of integrating drives into buildings and the need for building air conditioning units, resulting in significant lifetime operational cost savings by removing the necessity for air handling units.

 

Extreme Operating Conditions

Innovative totally-enclosed heating and cooling design, along with the cabinet enclosure, enables reliable drive operation in temperatures ranging from -45°C to 50°C.

 

Input Control Disconnect

Enhances system safety with a pad-lockable input disconnect switch interlocked with a vacuum contactor, ensuring secure and reliable operation. A verification window allows clear confirmation of the switch’s disconnect position, providing an additional layer of safety for maintenance and access.

 

Integrated Isolation Transformer

Reduces overall harmonics to meet or exceed IEEE® 519- 2014 standards using a phase shifting transformer. The integral transformer simplifies design and minimizes the overall footprint, offering a more efficient and compact solution.

 

Removable Power Modules

Allow for easy maintenance and repairs, the removable power modules each contain a cooling system, IGBTs, and DC bus capacitors, reducing the need for extensive spare parts inventory.

 

Multi-level Output Waveform

Eliminates the need for additional output filters or specialty VFD-rated cables. The additive multi-level pulse width modulation output also eliminates Neutral Point Shift.

 

Oil Filled Capacitors

Rated for a 20-year life expectancy, these capacitors reduce the need for frequent replacements, lowering overall costs.

 

Pre-charge Circuit

Reduces inrush current to the transformer and capacitors, reducing stress on components and extending their lifespan.

 

Versatile Control Interface

Offers ten digital input/outputs and three analog input/outputs (with the ability to expand up to eight outputs). Each input/output can be programmed for various functions for ultimate flexibility.

 

Synchronous Motor Transfer

Enables control of multiple motors using a single drive, providing smooth transitions between drive and utility power by eliminating current and torque transients.

Insulated Bearings

  • An electric motor operating on an adjustable speed drive is at risk for premature bearing failure caused by stray currents. Experience indicates using insulated bearings on both ends of the motors is the most effective way to protect the motor from destructive currents. A high level of bearing protection is especially beneficial in applications where motor maintenance and replacement are difficult.
  • Extended Horsepower Capability

  • Extended horsepower capability allows a smaller motor to run at a higher horsepower than its baseline depending on the application requirements. This provides motor users potential cost savings while achieving the same motor performance.
  • Insulation with Wide Thermal Capability

  • Critical cooling motors utilize many Class H insulation materials in its winding designs, which provides increased thermal protection. These motors operate with a very low temperature rise at rated conditions, giving them a wide thermal margin and extended motor life.
  • Low Vibration

  • A vibration level exceeding NEMA MG1 requirements provides stability and durability by prolonging motor and bearing life and helping to reduce downtime.
