HOUSTON, TX —Jan. 17, 2017 —Toshiba International Corporation (TIC) today announced the successful installation of the first Toshiba oil insulated transformer (OIT) delivered to Missouri. The 80 MVA power transformer is the first of three OIT projects planned for Southwestern Power Administration.
“Toshiba is excited to expand our OIT business into Missouri where we have previously installed only gas insulated transformers,” said Kyle Kem, president of the TIC social infrastructure systems group. “We welcome the opportunity to serve Southwestern Power Administration and are eager to conclude the next phase of this project.”
The new OIT services the Springfield Substation in Springfield, Missouri, operated by Southwestern Power Administration. The government-owned utility received the OIT from the Toshiba transformer manufacturing plant in Betim, Brazil, by way of the Port of Houston near TIC headquarters. Installation was completed in December of 2016 concluding the year-long project.
“Toshiba exceeded our expectations for service and quality throughout the process,” said Patrick West, electrical engineer at Southwestern Power Administration. “We look forward to the delivery and installation of the remaining transformers.”
