Toshiba Introduces New Power Distribution Unit for Datacenter Applications

HOUSTON, TX — Feb. 28, 2018 — Toshiba International Corporation (TIC) now offers a Power Distribution Unit (PDU) for datacenter applications. Toshiba PDUs are available through the Power Electronics division based in Houston, TX.

"Our new Toshiba Power Distribution Units are UL-891 listed and designed with IEC Form 4B Type 7 for maximum compartmentalization," said Greg Mack, Vice President and General Manager of the TIC Power Electronics Division. “With safety being a top priority to many of our customers, the PDU is designed to isolate each component for improved safety and to reduce the risk of arc flash incidents.”

These PDUs include a convection-cooled transformer compartment that is isolated to allow for the separation of primary and secondary voltages. The electronic trip main breaker module, subfeed distribution breakers, and main monitor also are compartmentalized for arc flash safety. The unique compartmentalized design isolates each component to help eliminate operator errors and to prevent cascading failures from arc flash.

Accessibility and flexibility were paramount factors in the Toshiba PDU design. Accessibility is enhanced by side-mounted distribution compartments on the left and/or right sides of the unit. Each unit is ready to be tailored to individual project requirements and is capable of being configured for:
  • Subfeed & Panelboard Monitoring
  • 42 Circuit Panelboards up to 400A
  • Subfeed Breakers up to 800A
  • I Line Panelboards up to 1600A
  • Remote Emergency Power Off
  • Network Monitoring (SNMP/Modbus)
An optional ISO compartment allows customers to safely populate the PDU after the unit is powered and installed. Up to two output breakers can be connected to the PDU without any entrance to the main cabinet for exceptional easy and safety.
