Toshiba Launches MTX2-15 Outdoor Medium Voltage Adjustable Speed Drive

HOUSTON, TX — June 1, 2017 — The MTX2-15 is the next-generation medium voltage outdoor adjustable speed drive (ASD) newly available from Toshiba. The 4160 volt NEMA-3R ASD incorporates Toshiba’s reliable multi-level topology with a smaller footprint, removable power modules, and air-cooling design. The MTX2-15 is ideal for remote locations from offshore platforms to the desert eliminating the need for a building and indoor floor space. Industry demand for the MTX2-15 includes oil & gas, power generation, aggregate, mining & minerals, refinery, and other industrial and commercial industries.

“The groundbreaking MTX2-15 with smaller footprint, totally enclosed design, and draw-out power modules extends our heritage of innovating outdoor medium voltage drives,” said Hassan Cherradi, medium voltage drives product manager at TIC.”

The new MTX2-15 includes standard features of an integral 36-pulse transformer and five-level pulse width modulation with neutral-point clamping technology. In addition, the MTX2-15 reduces overall cost since a building and cooling system are no longer required. The next-generation outdoor drive combines a totally-enclosed cooling system and removable power modules in a stacked configuration which reduces footprint by more than 30% from previous generation and enhances serviceability. The enclosure cooling system and standard externally-powered heater control system allows the drive to operate from -45°C to +50°C (-49°F to 122°F). A control interface with 10 digital inputs and 10 digital outputs along with 3 analog inputs and 3 analog outputs provides flexibility with programming control operations. Updated microprocessor allows on-board control capabilities including, multiple communication protocols allowing the MTX2-15 drive to interface with a wide variety of systems. Applications include fans, pumps, blowers, conveyors, extruders, compressors, mixers, mills, and starting duty.
